what do you think about taking a baby to WDW?

I love going to disney world, and when my DD was an infant, and age 1 & 2. I had plans of taking her.
But unfortunately those plans never came to be because my mom was so against it and made me feel like I was a bad parent and that I was a selfish parent for going to WDW for me and make the baby suffer.

But to me, I think that the baby enjoys it, seeing the different environment, seeing the colors of the characters. And plus as adults we get to go away from our daily regular day lives to be in a different city with our families that we love.

I see my co-worker who has taken her baby to disney 3 times before she was 6 months. And the pictures of the baby are so cute, all the smiles while looking at the flowers at epcot, and the cute smiles when she is looking at the characters.

My mom says that babies smile at anything and they don't know it's disney.

I just wanted to know opinions on taking infants to WDW:

thanks everyone!

So by your mother's reasoning....a baby should never leave the house because they don't know any better? And the next time she smiles at her, it is because she thinks your mother is you and doesn't know the difference? (please read that with lots and lots of sarcasm!!)

It is my feeling that if I am going on a family vacation then my family goes with me. That includes the baby. DD is 4 months old right now and I would totally take her to Disney! She does know the difference. Let Mickey Mouse come on TV and she just stares at the television. She completely ignores other shows. She definitely has preferences. There is plenty for a baby to do anywhere. Disney just has more for them. We are not going this year. Both of our families live quite far so we are taking the baby so the families can meet her. But come next May....I am so at Disney!!! DD will be 18 months. And I am positive that she will have a blast. Would she have fun at a park? Yes but I want to go to Disney and they have parks there too!

I took both of mine as infants. DS was 5 months on his first trip and DD was 7 months old. They both enjoyed it. We were going for us, not for "them" per say, but they both had a ton of fun.

We also took DS at 2 1/2 (same trip as when DD was 7 months) and he loved it, he still 6+ months later mentions seeing Mickey Mouse and Tigger and seeing the castle and riding the flying dinosaur. Sure he might not remember much of the trip as an adult, but he had a blast. We're hopefully going back next year when DD will be 2 1/2 and DS will be 4 1/2, I expect both of them to have a blast then as well.

Now that I am a mommy for the 2nd time now, I think taking a baby to WDW is fine. I waited until my oldest was 8 before I took her and I so regret it. Think of all of the neat pictures I could have had to show her riding on Dumbo as well as pics with characters, etc. What a waste of time. I won't make the same mistake with my little one. Had my DH not gotten sick and had to cancel Disney for the past three years we would have taken our baby. But she's 2 years old and some people still stay that 2 year olds are too young and will not remember anything...doesn't matter, we'll remember it! And that's why they have those neat gadgets called cameras to supplement.

Have fun with the baby at Disney World!

I've taken DS 6 times between ages 6 months and just under 3 yrs. Also, I'm planning our next trip with DS (age 3 and new baby, who will be 7 mo old).

So, obviously, I'm in favor of babies/toddlers at Disney.

I think it's a great trip. I'll have the memories forever, and it's a really easy trip with little ones.

Did it many many times!! I totally recommend it! Those were some of the easiest trips we ever took!! They don't ask to buy anything, they're basically happy as long as you're holding them, etc. It was very nice. I breastfed so never had to worry about packing bottles, heating formula, etc, so the trips seemed very easy to me!!!

I say go go go and have fun!! Take lots of pics, the baby may not remember it, but you will!!!

I never thought I'd take a baby to WDW but when my 3rd child was 5 months old we went and had so much fun...we all loved it!

There are plenty of people here who do it and love it. Personally, I would never want to take a child young enough that they aren't potty trained. But that's just my opinion.

I don't like the hassle of bringing a big diaper bag (or stroller for that matter). I like to pack light, and we don't carry any bags at all into the park at this point.

But then, my kids are now 10 and 13, so I don't have to worry about any of this.

Take them we have taken my son at 1 and almost 3 and we are going back and he is almost 5 plus they get in free at that age enjoy the free entrance we did

took my DD at 25 months and had a blast it became an annual trip except in 2007 when our planned trip was on my due date LOL. In 2008 we went in July DS was almost 8 months old. that was the longest I would wait to get my Disney fix.

We now go at least twice a year because we bought into DVC since we knew we wanted to share it more with our kids.

oh and we are taking our Godson and parents with us in August for their first trip and he will be just 7 months

I think you should raise your kids the way you see fit, do what you want to do, take them where ever you want to take them. You're mom got her shot at raising kids...now it's your turn.

We have three kids and each of them made their first trip to Disney between 3 and 4 months old. They are now 5,3, and 1 and we are headed back again in July. To be honest the infants are far far easier than toddlers!

We were going to wait until DD was almost 3 to take her (in spring 2012) but we've decided to go next year. She'll be barely 2 when we take the trip, and I'd actually take her now at 1 if we could swing it. I know she'd love it. Babies & young children learn by being exposed to different environments & experiences, and Disney has SO much for little ones to look at & take in!

We took our son at 5 months, 13 months, 18 months, 24 months, 30 months, and 36 months. And I've lost count since then. All great trips!

I took my kids when they first turned 2.

We took DS at 2 and then when DD turned 2 and DS was 6 we went back again.

I just knew I couldn't handle a baby at Disney. Mine didn't sleep thru the night which meant no one would get much sleep.

I was also a bit worried about making sure they had all their shots and weren't exposed to tons of folks before they were 3 months old. Since both mine were born in October just before flu season starts I didn't want them getting the flu as babies. And it worked. Neither of them got really sick that first year. Phew.

I say you should do what you feel comfortable with. If you want to take the baby to disney, go for it.

I've taken both of my children to Disney as infants and will be doing so with the new one on the way.

We had a great time. Yes, they don't remember it but a family vacation is about everyone in the family. You'll remember the trip and create some wonderful memories in the process.

Go have fun! Don't let others dictated to you on how you should raise your kids. Their your kids! I think you'll be surprised on how much fun you will have.

Really...we felt that it was easier on a baby, especially when it comes to keeping with schedules, for an infant to NOT go.

We didn't go anywhere until our oldest was 2. Her baby sister stayed with her grandparents when we went anywhere (just a few days at a time) until she was 2.

It was always just to the beach or similar. But were able to give our oldest our undivided attention for a little while.

Didn't want to hear about "you went to Disney without me?!?" when she gets older.

I agree with the others - do what is right for you and your family. My son's first trip was at 18months, then lots afterwards. I agree that is what cameras are for. We took my granddaughter at 5 months, and had no problems. Her brother was 5years, so it was a good thing there were four adults for two children.
