I can't take it anymore:sad2: I feel like it burns up the back of my neck and is a puddle of sweat :scared1:. My mood, well lets say my family think I am a nut job :lmao:. I was so upset about the hot flashes the other night I was crying to my dh, who btw is very supportive .

Do any disers here take any over the counter meds?? Or you just suck it up and let those hot flashes ride, LOL!!

Clothes off...

Covers off...

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I have to put a wet cold washcloth on my face and/or neck.

Mine only lasted about 2 months....THANK GOODNESS!!

I didn't do anything to alleviate them....I just walked around with a wet bra & shirt all the time.

At this very moment I am using a gel ice pack on the back of my neck!!!!:rotfl:

I'm not allowed to take anything because I've had blood clots in my legs & lungs. Being my menopause was surgically induced I've been told my flashes are much more severe & can last many years. Right now I'm going on year 4.

My Mom had one hot flash for 10 minutes & my Grandma about the same. To be honest I'm glad neither one had to deal with this.

The air is set on 60 degrees in the bedroom,,,,,DH calls it the meat locker & I still keep the covers off & sleep in summer sleeveless nightgowns all year ....My poor DH!!!!:goodvibes

Back in my Dr. Phil days (I loved that show.) I remember his wife, Robin, said that she kept a misting fan close by and that it helped.

thanks everyone for your advice..misting fan not a bad idea and the cool gell pack good one too :thumbsup2

I take Estrovan and have for about 2 years now. It's over the counter and all natural, sold at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, etc. They even have their own store brands that work equally well, I just buy whichever is on sale.

Full effects are best felt a couple of weeks after I started taking them.

I don't use a mister fan because of the mess they make but I have personal desk top fans in almost every room of my house and at my desk at work! They do help.

I've taken black cohosh and it didn't seem to help but some people swear by it.

I can't do hormone replacement therapy because of my medical history so I am just trying to get through it as best I can. Near as I can count, it has been over 4 years now.

In the winter, I go outside and rub snow on my bare arms. Ahhhh.....:cloud9:
Snow angels are good, too, :rotfl2:

Otherwise, I stick my head in the freezer for a few minutes until the heat subsides. (A friend recommended this.) :rotfl: It does help!

At night, covers on, covers off--repeat as needed.

7 years and counting...

SOY!!!

http://www.womentowomen.com/menopause/soyformenopausalsymptoms.aspx

OP, I make a healthy shake everyday. In my blender = 8oz of juice (cranberry, cranrasperry, crangrape, pomegrante) (whatever you like) . 1 scoop of powdered SOY, 1 tsp of Brewer's Yeast, 1 tsp of ground Flaxseed, 1tsp of Acai, (all bought at Whole Foods), 1/2 a banana, and 5 ice cubes!!

I have it every single day. Have been doing this for almost 2 years. I have noticed a HUGE difference in my hot flashes. :goodvibes

You are a stronger person than I am - or a much less picky eater. I tried this and decided that I'd rather have hot flashes than choke down that concoction every day! On the other hand, the person who told me about it swears by it. Thinks it is yummy and thought it did reduce the hot flashes.

PatsMom, Using the CRANGRAPE juice makes it so much easier!!! :goodvibes Not to mention all the ice. Yup, I have it every single day. Seeing and knowing this has worked for me, is what keeps me taking it day after day. :goodvibes

Ohhh, OceanSpray just came out with the Pomegranate flavored juice and it is in the diet form as well as regular. It is realllllly yummy.

I have given this healthy shake recipe/formula to so many of my friends (as we are all in the menopause stages) and they drink it and as well see the results. :thumbsup2

My oncologist gave me a script for effexor for hot flashes. It's an antidepressant but taken in low doses, it treats hot flashes without any noticable differences/side effects related to antidepressants.

I'm just starting into perimenopause. So far I only get really hot at night. My solution is flannel pajamas and air conditioning. I put the air conditioning on high and make DH wear flannel pajamas.

I also eat a lot of soy. If you can't stomach tofu, try edamame. They're yummy to snack on at night. Just make sure they're salted. For those of you who haven't had it you salt the cooked pods and pop the beans out of the pod like you would a peanut.

I do like the shake idea and I have in the past tried soy, I think I will add these to my list...

btw..as I sit here and type I have an ice pack on the back of my neck ...aaahhhh this is how
I spell relief, LOL :lmao:

Oh Cheryl, absolutely. This is a healthy shake. My sister is a Clinical Nurse Specialist at a HUGE hospital in Boston. I always go to her with my issues. She suggested 2 years ago I start with SOY. Then she introduced me to ground flaxseed for my fiber needs. Then onto Brewer's Yeast and now ACAI!!! Take some time and read about each of these important supplements. ALL IN THE NAME OF YOUR GOOD HEALTH. ::yes::

I am sipping my shake right now as I type this...buy everything at Whole Foods or Mother Earth or Trader Joes, buy your juice at the surpermarket and get yourself started. Hopefully, you have a blender. :goodvibes

As far as SNOW ANGELS.....I live in Southern California....not an option here!!! :rotfl2:
