Aww, everyone should have a bit of mad money. Any chance you could make it a line item in your budget? Even just a few bucks that are absolutely, 100% not accounted for in any way can be such a mental health boost on a bad day.

Not everyone makes enough money to have mad money. I don't struggle to pay my bills, but I also live in squalor and don't live in a nice place. I work a ton of overtime, but that comes sporadically and isn't extra. It's used to keep the kid in college stocked up and help the older one as she moves from college to on her own.

I have things, but everything not related to strictly living was paid for by working extra, not by extra money from regular working.

Don't get me wrong, we have "pocket money;" if I want to stop at the taproom for a couple of pints on the way home from work, it's not an issue, but if I'm spending $100 on something, I need to think about it first. That's not a trivial amount of cash to us.
