What do you serve for breakfast at Christmas?

For the past couple of years, I made an egg casserole or french toast casserole because we had family staying with us. Prior to that, though, when it was just DH and the kids and myself, it was Pillsbury cinnamon rolls from the can! It was a tradition!!

This year, we are back to the four of us, so it will be Pillsbury Cinnamon rolls :thumbsup2 and cut fruit (melon, pineapple).

We have a breakfast casserole, homemade (but easy) cheese danish, citrus fruit salad, and lots of coffee and hot spiced cider.

I usually make an egg strata (Pampered Chef's recipe), but this year I'm thinking I would like to make blueberry bread French toast.

Homemade Swedish Cinnamon Bread & hot chocolate!

Puffed Apple Pancake! A very eggy batter baked in a casserole dish. Yum!

Santa leaves donuts and a plate of fruit!

Crepes and belgian waffles with fresh fruit (strawberries, rasberries, blueberries, blackberries).

That sounds yummy. Do you mind sharing the recipe? I'm always looking for new things and this sounds right up my alley.

Zweibelkuchen

Ingredients:
1 1/3 cup of warm water
1/2 tsp sugar
1 pkg dry yeast
2 tbsp oil
2 tsp salt
4 cups of flour
15 medium onions chopped into small pieces
3/4 cup sour cream
6 slightly beaten eggs
salt and pepper to taste
1/2lb smoked bacon
shredded swiss/sharp cheddar

Method:
Combine yeast, sugar and water in a bowl and let stand for 10 minutes.
Stir in oil salt and flour. Knead dough in bowl until it forms a ball. Cover with a towel and let stand in warm area for 2 hours. Roll out thin and place in pie shell or cake pan. In a frying pan carmalize onions in butter until golden. Separately add sour cream to eggs beat well and add cooked onions. Add salt and pepper. Pour over dough. Chop bacon into small bits and sprinkle over the mixture, as well sprinkle as much cheese as you'd like over the cake (for our family ALOT)
Bake at 450 degrees F for 25 minutes. You can serve cold or hot but we prefer hot.

We eat the junk out of our stockings as we open gifts---mostly candy and cookies!

Thanks for the recipe Pixie! It's different than the one I found in that they used a pre-made crust(cheater cheaters! :rotfl2:)

I might need to make it sooner than Christmas. :thumbsup2

No problem! It's a bit time intensive but worth it. We usually make a few at a time and freeze some ahead of time so you just have to bake them

I usually make an egg strata

Us too, no one loves it, but MIL made one 5-6 years ago and we've done it ever since because it can be made ahead and cooked while we opened our gifts.

Hoping to find new inspiration for a make ahead and bake xmas moring recipie on this thread so keep the ideas coming.

usually something fast, by the time we finish opening and cleaning up it like 11 and we eat our dinner 2-3.
Last year I made some kind of french toast that you bake in the oven and I didnt like it at all.
I think this year we are just gonna have cinnamon buns and bagels....bring on the carbs lol.

I do something different every year. I have tried lots of egg casseroles. This year, we are making egg/bacon/cheese sandwiches with bagels from Panera. :santa:

It varies - our big family event is Christmas Eve
Christmas day it is usually DH, the kids and I. Sometimes my Bro and SIL are here and depart right after breakfast for her family event (weather permitting) we live on opposite sides of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Its not looking too good for them getting over the mountains this year:sad1:

Cinnamon rolls (pillsbury) and bacon
or
Donuts from the best donut shop in town if DH gets up and gets them with bacon
or if we want something substantial
Breakfast pizza
Hashbrown crust, bacon, sausage, eggs, green onion and cheese. Yummmm

we are contemplating going out for breakfast this year. Our favorite dive is going to be open and we just might go do that.

We make Cinnamon rolls and orange rolls with glaze on top of them...you know the ones that are in the stores biscuit area...we serve them with fruit and scrambled eggs...I use to make them homemade but the store ones are really good and the kids love them. The orange ones are my favorite.

On New Years if your wondering we make Cheese and chocolate fondue with tons of stuff to dip....the kids look forward to that every year...I use the Ghirardelli chocolate chips for it with cream....mmmmmmmmm it is soooooooo good

Thanks for the recipe! Do you fry the bacon?

We usually do something easy like the Pillsbury cinnamon rolls or the Main St French Toast casserole.

Could someone kindly post a recipe for Monkey Bread. I had saved one from these boards but our computer crashed last week and we've lost everything. It was one that you make the night before. It also needs to be made from scratch as I'm in Australia and don't have access to some of the ready made rolls etc that some of you use.

thanks heaps :worship:

Monkey Bread

1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 small packages (or one large if you can find one) butterscotch cook and serve pudding
1 stick of butter
26 Rhodes brand frozen rolls

Liberally grease a bundt pan (I use cooking spray)
put frozen rolls in pan
sprinkle brown sugar and pudding over the rolls (dry)
cut stick of butter into pats and place around the rolls

put in oven covered with a towel overnight-do NOT turn on the oven

In the morning, REMOVE towel, keep rolls in oven, turn oven on to 350, bake for 30 minutes. When done, invert bundt pan on large plate to remove rolls, serve.

If you want to get really fancy you can melt the butter and brown sugar together and then pour over frozen rolls the night before.

The rolls I use are just white frozen dinner rolls. http://www.rhodesbread.com/products/view/800
Maybe you can find something similar?

I'm making Baked French Toast Casserole with Praline Topping. I had a trial run last week, and it was really yummy, easy, and since it's prepped the night before I think it's perfect for Christmas morning :thumbsup2

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/...casserole-with-maple-syrup-recipe2/index.html

I'll serve it with bacon and a fresh fruit salad.

Since my in-laws are visiting for the next month, I'll also be having (lots of) mimosas and coffee with bailey's ;).

I wish I could vary the menu but I approached Dad with the idea and he definately wants to stick to the same ole same ole and since its the only holiday meal I do for my parents and family I'll oblige:)

Scrambled eggs
Home fries
Bacon and sausage
Fruit Bowl
Monkey Bread
Tomato Juice (one single serving just for Dad)
Orange Juice
Champagne

Just one year I'd like to try the oven french toast or egg casseroles I see here all the time and I'm sure that day will come but for now we'll stick to tradition:)
