What do you pay for?

As an offshoot of another project my dd's are interested in the prices of groceries across the country. They decide to try and find out the prices of these five different things. If anyone is willing to help, please respond with the prices you find in your area, and your geographic area rural, suburban, city, would help too if it is not obvious. For instance we would be Northeastern PA - Suburban. Size, brand etc. will vary and change the price but just what you normally pay for your normal brand, or in the case of apples and lettuce price per pound, not hard science here we're just working on creating and reading data from charts and graphs (and discussing the limitations of this information actually helps!) Also, if you know a few off hand but not another feel free to respond- some helps!

Milk: $3.50/gallon shipped in or $5 gallon local (I do try to buy grown in Alaska products)
Bread: $5.25 for Orowheat, $2.50 for Safeway french bread
Eggs: $2.50 / dozen
Apples: $2.50/lb
Lettuce: $3.20 for a head of Romaine

This is for a suburban small town on the road system in Alaska (an hour from Anchorage).

I'm in a small town (pop 2000) in SE Ohio. I do normal grocey shopping at Kroger. We are an hour from Pittsburgh, PA and 2 hours from Columbus, OH.

Milk: (Store Brand) $2.50-3.50/gal
Bread: (Nickel's-local place) $.88-1.89
Eggs: (Store brand-medium or large) $1.29-1.39
Apples: $3.99/bag (I usually buy whatever is on sale and it doesn't matter what color or type)
Lettuce: (Dole) $.99 for a head of lettuce (The bag stuff can be from $1.49 on sale to $3.99. Either Dole or Kroger brand are our choices).

Eggs: $1.69/dozen
Apples:$1.19 (they were very expensive this year)

Milk: Usually on sale SOMEWHERE for $2.50 a gallon, I rarely see it over $2.99
Bread: The bread we like is normal priced $3.29 a loaf but I tend to buy it on sale for 2/$5
Eggs: I don't buy eggs all that often, but I'm thinking $1.29 for a dozen? Often on sale for $1, but I don't buy them regularly, just when we need them, so I don't alway sget them on sale.
Lettuce: $1.50?

Oh, and I'm in suburban Detroit.

Southeastern Massachusetts:

Milk = 1% is $2.99 a gallon at convenience stores (Hood ) or $3.59 to $3.79 per gallon at the supermarket (Shaw's or Stop & Shop brand).

Bread = $2.49 for a loaf of whole wheat white

Eggs = $1.29 to $1.79 for a dozen, local eggs are brown(tan) shell

Apples = $5.99 to $6.99 for a bag - not sure of the lbs, but there are between 8 to 12 in a bag, depending on the size of the apple

Lettuce = $1.49 to $2.49 for a head of iceburg

Milk: about $3.19..can sometimes find on sale for $2.50
Bread: My DH likes the whole wheat Orowheat..that's about $2.29
Eggs: About $1.30 a dozen
Apples: I can usually find a type or two on sale for .99 a pound
Lettuce: Iceberg I see at about $1.00 and the good stuff varies quite a bit, but generally about $1.20

Eggs $3.66/18 Egglands Best Extra Large
Apples $0.99-$2.99 although $1.99 is pretty typical
Don't buy lettuce so I'm not sure.

Eggs: $1.69 doz. at the grocery store or $2/dozen from a local farm
Apples: .99/lb
Lettuce: Iceberg this week was .99 a head. I also bought green leaf which was $1.49 a head

I live south of Boston and my prices are about exactly the same!!!

Small Town, USA (population under 10,000) about 15 minutes from Kansas City, MO. Food allergy kid in our home, so we use some alternative foods.

Milk: Coconut milk--$2.29/half gallon if we go to KC Walmart. $4/half gallon if we buy it at our small town grocery store. Regular milk is $1.99/half gallon. We never buy a gallon of milk because it sours before we use it. Coconut milk only comes in half gallons--and we would use a gallon of it.
Bread: whole wheat $2.29/loaf
Eggs: Rarely buy eggs so I have no idea
Apples: Red Delicious go on sale for .99/lb sometimes, but our fave are Gala and are usually 1.69-1.89/lb, so we don't buy then often.
Lettuce: 3 romaine hearts for 2.99

Apples: $1.29 per pound (some slightly more/less, depended on variety)

Milk: Around 3.99
Bread: anwhere from 1.55 to 4.00 we prefer the higher priced whole grains
Eggs: 1.49 a Dozen for Large grade A
Apples: Currently 2.99 a bag (think its 2 or three pounds)
Lettuce: between 1.25 and 1.50 a head

I'm from South-Central Iowa, shop at Hy-Vee (for those of you not from the Midwest/Iowa in particular, it's kind of like the Kroger's of Iowa). Suburban store location.
Milk: $3.29/gallon AE brand ($2.19 half gallon), not on sale.
Bread: Anywhere from $.99-$1.59 for store brand white/wheat bread, depending on sale.
Eggs: Normally around $1.29 for 12 ($1.59-$1.99 for 18), but on sale this week for $1.
Apples: Really depends on season and brand. Seen them as low as $.79/lb-upwards of $5.99/lb. The $5.99 was for off-season honeycrisps, and those sometimes get even more expensive. Usually you can get them for under $1.50/lb, especially if you don't care about brand.
Lettuce: Head of iceberg around $1, can range from around $.99 to $1.29 depending on whether there's any sales or discounts. Like the apples and virtually every other type of produce in Iowa, this can range in price depending on the season, too (especially if it's a produce item in winter).

West Central Minnesota. We live rural and go to the next town (pop. 14,000) to shop.

Milk: Grocery Store brand $4.12 but we usually buy at the gas station and their brand is 2/$6

Bread: $2.39 cheapest regular white or wheat

Eggs: $1.39 large dozen

Apples: Usually some type is on sale for $1.19/lb

Lettuce: $1.89 iceberg head. (summer it's 99 cents)
