What do you lock your laptop to?

I just bought my first laptop, and I bought one of those cables to lock it up. My question is WHAT do you lock it to in the room? (We're staying at AKL). I can't remember what the table legs are like, and I am having trouble picturing anything else that I could loop the cable through.
DH says we should just hide the laptop in a suitcase, lock the suitcase, and stick it in the closet.

I do what your DH is suggesting and I've never had a problem.

I have wrapped the cable around the bed frame. Much better to use the cable than hide it in a suitcase.

Depends on the hotel and the setup. However, I would think that the other options might be in the closet attached to the shelves and / or rod, the pipes on the sink, Around the hinge on the bathroom door, etc... In one safe we were able to put the laptop out of it's bag into it.

All I have ever done is lock mine in the safe. I have a 15 inch lcd and it fits with no probelm. There is not much room for anything else in the safe but it works.

I stayed at the AKL in Feb and used my cable around and underneath the table. There is no way that anyone could slide it off, and if they had what it takes to cut thru the cable I had....they deserved to take my Macbook pro!!

It was fine! also they safe there is big enough to hold my 15.4

Hmmmm have honestly never even thought about locking up the laptop, we stay in a lot of hotels, and at disney too, and I have never locked it, althought I guess after reading this I may. I just really never even thought about it, we leave it sitting on the table.....oops:guilty:

Me too :scared: Mine is a 17" screen and not sure it'll fit in the safe

We never lock our laptopS up. Anywhere. Mine might get thrown into a dresser drawer but my husband's work laptop just gets a newspaper put on top of it. Too much of a hassle to undo everything.

In ten years, never had a thing happen to it.

I just put mine in the laptop bag and then put it in my suitcase close it all up and put it in the closet. I have never had an issue.

I dont think a 17 would fit in the safe. I wouldn't leave mine unlocked, the data on it isn't replaceable, and I'm much more concerned about that than I am the laptop.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've brought my laptop to Disney year after year from value to moderate to deluxe and never locked it up. Never even so much as had it moved by mousekeeping, let alone stolen. Last year I was in the market for a 24'' iMac and there are no Apple stores near my house. When we were in Orlando I bought the computer and accesories (over $2000) at the Apple store on our first night. Left it in the room at Port Orleans all trip, sometimes even set up (I was too anxious to take it home only to find it didn't work and have to mail it to Apple) and never had any problems, and to be honest it was within view of the big glass window, all be it we kept the curtians drawn when not there.

I am all about APPLES! that is why I keep my new MacBook Pro locked in the resorts. It was over 2000 bucks, and I would HATE to get angry at Disney because someone walked off with it! It is worth the extra 50 bucks for a lock to not have to worry about it.

Your a woman(?) after my own heart. That said though, I understand why someone would want to lock there stuff up, just saying worst case I have NEVER had a problem not locking mine. I'm going to be buying a MBP this time around during my free dining trip in August and probabbly won't lock it either.

Lots of trusting people here. I also back up my computer before I travel in case something happens.

We just got back last week. I bought my black MacBook in February and took it with but didn't lock it up. I wasn't too worried about it. I left it zipped up in my backpack without any problems.

We however did lock up my jewelry and DH's Palm Pilot since it contains all our passwords for accounts, etc. Granted it's password protected to access them but even so, if that went missing we'd be SOL and have some serious issues.

Everytime we stay at AKL i leave my laptop on the table plugged/charging and i've never had a problem.

The most I ever do it put it in it's travel case. My DH travels for work a lot and he leaves his out all the time. Laptops do not tend to disappear from hotel rooms. Cash, credit cards, small pocketable things are much more likely to "walk away". I also have mine password protected (as does DH) so no one can just sit down and log on. This isn't about being a trusting person, but realizing that laptops are a little too difficult to hide when walked out of a room and aren't really worth the trouble for someone looking for quick cash.

I am sorry but this post gave me a good chuckle. No offense intended. Our laptop has no personal information stored on it, we carry it more for convenience (e-mail, storing photos, etc.) I really believe if anyone was in the business of taking laptops from rooms at Disney, they would be well equipped to deal with anything you had it locked to. We don't even worry about it. It is a laptop computer. If it gets gone gone while on vacation then so be it. We may lose some photos that I had downloaded to it, but we would definately not let it ruin our vacation. We would just report it to our insurance company when we got back. That's why we pay them every month and never call them unless something like this happens.:confused3 Just don't put your personal information that you wouldn't want anyone to have and put it away in a drawer and then don't worry about it. We have always found it right where we left it.:thumbsup2
