I think this was asked a while back but I do not think it got many replies. I am trying to figure out the best way to spend money while at Disney to come back with the best possible souvies. I love Disney stuff and want to have really cool things to bring back. Mostly I want to have cool things for ds2. I am thinking of doing the Mr Potato Head, a few pressed pennies, and getting him some Mickey ears. Any ideas on pricing? I know the MPH is like $18 for a box. I already have a head so I will just fill his box with parts. :)

How can I stretch my money the furthest?

What do you think is the best thing you bought there?

Also to bring back things for people, like to bring back my family and best friend a souvie, what can I get very inexpensively?

I def would love to get an ornament for our tree b/c we LOVE Christmas and decorating for it. Any ideas on prices?

PLUS, I really want a nice photo album that will hold at least 300 pics and they seem really high on ebay.. any ideas on pricing in DTD?

Any special things you can do out there that may not be well known? I love special things and pictures, etc..

Thanks so much for ANY ideas. As you can tell, this trip is def on a tight budget but I want to make the spending money stretch as far as possible. :) :sunny:

I like to buy what ever mug they have at DTD (seasonal ie: winter, valentine's day, spring, summer, halloween etc) in the free standing soda/popcorn stand. I usually buy it without a drink for like $3. If you add the drink, it runs more like $5. I don't do it for the drink, I collect the mugs. Now they also have the new Goofy's candy shoppe store & there is a refillable icee glass you can make. You can do any combo of color glass (plastic), with a charater...Goofy's, Stitch, Mickey Minnie..... If I remember correctly, they were like $8ish filled with an icee (yummy flavors too), then your refills (and no it isn't just your "current stay" refill :cool1: ) is around $3.
..... and I will buy what ever else I like that is on sale (I am a shopaholic) even if I do not need it. :smooth:

remember this is a vacation for you, if dont get uncle jim or aunt jinny dont get something, no big deal I am sure they will understand. Just pick something nice that will bring back the great memories of the trip for those of you who are going.

as for what I like to buy, I like picking up a new baseball cap everytime I go.

Picture puzzles $4 to $8,Mickey Mug $5,Die cut Mickey post it notes $3 to $6,post cards for scrapbook $1 and Mickey bottle toppers $4. :goodvibes :wizard:

Definately set aside some $ to get the photo albums. Thats what we bought for the grandparents and we also bought one to keep out at home. I think they were about $12 each and we will be getting more for our next trip. So much better thank the coffee mugs we got for the grandparents on our first trip.

My fave things to get are things I might use, like post it pads, pens, markers, etc. There are sooo many great ones for sale down there. Keeps disney alive in my office! hehe

Mike :goodvibes

We like to buy a beach towel wherever we go. I agree with the earlier poster, don't worry about buying everyone at home something.

I've gotten the resort mugs, drink from one or more everyday! I've also gotten dish towels, makes cleaning the kitchen more pleasant. I've gotten a few pair of earrings lately that are too obvious. I also started a silver charm necklace three trips ago. I now have 7 charms on it. DH gave me the necklace for Christmas. I also get the photo album each year. There are some with the year on it. Then I can remember which year I took which pictures. It is just DH and I so I try to get one or two park photos taken by the park photographer each trip. Basin at DTD has soap bars with Mickey Mouse's in them that are very reasonable. Those make good gifts for others.
Hope this helps.

something i got that got a good reception was the mickey mouse head scented
candles and soap with a holder...i think they were 2-3 dollars each and the holder was 2-3 any way in 2004 it came to a grand total of $5.00. i believe i got them in Ak but saw them at the big disney store in dtd also. i also found some really nice cloth wallets, change purses and little shoulder bags for $5 or less in china. they are made out of pretty brocade material...i got one for my pass and stuff( the purse is maybe 5x7) and people actually stopped and asked where i got it! they would be perfect for an evening bag or something. they also had large purses for not a whole lot more. and they also in china have really good smellling rose soap wrapped in chinese paper with a gold seal..think it's $1... i found a lot of ecomonical things in China... you just have to look among the not so economical things!

We bought antenna topper souvenirs for my in-laws. My father-in-law is a golfer & we found a golf ball one with Mickey ears on it & we got my mother-in-law a Minnie. These can be found in almost any resort or park gift shop.

My hubby says the same thing! he says this is our trip and it is our first one and I can't go down there worrying about buying people something that they may never use just to be bringing them back something. Ok, I can see this, but again, that is just ME... I feel so horrible if I don't bring people back things. :( Makes it hard! I have told my family though, that I will try to bring them back something but please to not expect much as I won't be taking that much! So, maybe those little soap bars or a keychain or a pin or soemthing?? :confused3

Yea, I can be like this too and it is hard!

If you have already told them not to expect much and you really want to get them something, then I suggest you get them the Mickey and or Character head shaped pens. They are really cute! I have a ton myself, and I got them for a few people at home and they loved them! They have Mickey, Minnie, Tigger, Pooh, Goofy, ect...I think they are $4.00 each and the pencils are I think $3.00 each. The best selection of them seems to be at the DTD scrapbook store (next to the Rainforest Cafe) but they are scattered around everywhere.

As for me, I always come back with 4 or 5 coffee mugs...I LOVE them and use them every day.

For your son, try to find the tourist Mickey Beanie. He is SO cute and a great keepsake. I think he was $10.95. He has a on black baseball hat on that says 2005, a cute sweatshirt with the 2005 logo and he carries a tote bag type thing also with the logo and 2005 on it. I have a tourist Mickey from all of my trips, they are all lined up on my desk at work next to my cup full of character head shaped pens and pencils! :rotfl:

My favorite too. :)

They're cheap, yet so incredibly charming and fun. :wizard:

I usually like to buy a t-shirt or sweatshirt and scrapbooking supplies. My older daughter went to Disney for a Christian youth ralley and she brought us each back a different pen. They are so cute :) My younger daughter has started collecting key chains so she can't wait to buy one from anywhere she can!

My DD brought her friends back Mickey head soaps and candles. We bought them back from a store in DTD I can't remember which one. I think it was the bathroom store. They were very inexpensive. I brought my "teacher friends" back a bath ball (one of those fizzy balls you put in the tub) it was from BASIN in DTD and it fizzed and little Mickeys floated in the tub. They wrapped each one with ribbon in a little bag. They were so cute and everyone loved them!!! I think they were $3.00 each. They have quite a few cute bath balls. DD bought one with a surprise in the center (A cute sponge animal). I bought a few with hearts and rose petals for a wedding shower. They wrap them up so nice. If you have aunts or ladies to buy for I love BASIN!!!

my sister is the same way

I bought a pin album a couple of years ago, and really enjoy adding to my album each visit. I am an extreme over packer, so little items are easier for me to bring home. I also enjoy using WDW pens, and clipping WDW key chains or little charms to my luggage.

What I always, 100% have to get is a magnet or 2 (one has to have the year on it-I collect magnets), a Christmas disk ornmanent with the year, one thing from the Haunted Mansion (usually a shirt),an antennae topper and one thing for my kitchen(this year was salt and pepper shakers-only $8!). I also have to get a shirt for my DD with Walt Disney World written somewhere on it, this year was Minnie which she is wearing the first day of school.

I know you asked about Christmas ornaments-most of the ball/Disk generic type are $10-$12. Plus I found a really cute Mickey in a Monorail one for $5! I snatched that up, too.

For friends and/or family, if they don't have to strictly be Disney, I would go into the China pavillion. I have found beautiful souviners for very inexpensive. But if you want Disney, can't go wrong with magnets! I love getting those for people. And keychains or those cute pens that have the top shapped like Mickey or DOnald or a princess. All under $6.

I agree with whoever above said to not worry about getting a souviner for everyone. What my mom started doing was buying a bunch of postcards the first day, fill them out and mail them sometime before she left. That way, everyone has a souvenir from her trip and it is personalized! Have a great time!

This might sound dumb, but I buy Mickey or Winnie the Poo pasta! I bring it home for myself and my friends. This last trip I even bought Micky Roni & Cheese. Inexpensive, but people love to get it! :earsboy:
