Hello everyone,

No I am not talking about Orlando or Florida for once ;)

You may have noticed I have just moved from Disneyland Paris to moderating here so I hope you will all be gentle with me :teeth:

I was wondering, what do you like best about this forum? And least? (Don't be personal, please :teeth: )

What I am trying to say, is there any information that pops up time and again that we could put in the sticky thread above?

Anthing we should post more of? Rumours, news from the other boards on the Dis?

Are there any things I can do to make this a better place for you?

Have you any ideas to improve this board?

Please post so we can all see what you think.

Thanks

Karen

Not sure it can be improved - it's brilliant in my opinion.

Although the wife thinks I am a bit sad with some of topics I have discussed, such as buying Heinz Beans and the fact the supermarkets do not sell decent gravy.
I suppose she has a point, I have turned into a bit of an old woman ( no offence at anyone intended).

Still I know a bit about Florida and if any of my colleagues are going they always ask my advice, and if I do not know I can always ask my friends on here.

I just like the fact that you can get to know people really well and that everyone is friendly and helpful.

The only thing I do not like is posts with hundreds of smileys bouncing around - sorry again nothing personal to anyone - just my own taste I guess.

well i love the smileys  :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :cheer2:   :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :cheer2:  :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

sorry johnny

seriously i think the board is great !!

AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHH :)

Its a very good board not much needs changing - maybe just needs more active modding :) i.e getting rid of the off topic threads.

Personally I dont see the digit dances as being trip planning, community board would be a better place - but thats just me - the smileys arent a problem :sunny:

If it aint broke dont fix it.

The main thing that attracted me to the DIS boards in the first place, and remains the most important aspect of it for me, is the UK bias combined with US input.

The fact that we can post questions about all things US as well as about Florida trips without looking like complete dummies (well, mostly anyway! ;) ) is a big encouragement to participate. I'd feel wary of asking about basic things like Johnny's tomato ketchup ;) on a purely US board, but I like the fact that if no-one on the UK board knows the answer to a US question, one of our US friends will usually jump in to help.

There is a lot of general Orlando information that could usefully be included in the sticky thread, as long as it's kept up-to-date. There's always the danger that sticky threads become part of the background and no-one notices they're there after a while, so they get forgotten. The phone number for booking ADRs is a personal black-hole - I can never find it when I need it!

Yes I agree with that. The digit dances should be moved, to be honest I never view these threads.

It's funny you should say that as I never view SDD threads - but then when mine came round I thought... well let's test the reaction... and bam within ten minutes I have half a dozen people dancing with me! It's a strange phenomenon and one I think you can't really take away.

Just my HO

I like the SDD! Its just a bit of fun and I think they belong on trip planning because its to do with an upcoming trip, the community board seems to be just for more general life stuff. :)

What do I like?

The people, the information, the UK slant and sharing all things Disney :)

Well . . . seeing as how you've asked . . . . the DIS IS the best. No question about it.

However - maybe because of the "other" boards I go on, the one thing which I personally don't see the point of are posts about how many posts people have made :confused3 These get banned on other boards, in fact on some you can't even see how many posts are made since it winds so many people up. I can understand why since people have a tendancy to post just to get their numbers up :rolleyes1

Anyway, I agree with SDDs being on the community board.

Perhaps now I've upset a few people (like Johnny says, don't mean to offend anyone and the question was asked ;) ), my other choice would be a specific UK board about trip planning for places other than Florida. At the moment they're hidden in the CB and when you're busy sometimes you just don't have the time to trawl through every single thread to find something which you might have an answer or an opinion on.

Happy DISing, everyone :disrocks:

hi
im sorry but that statement and the following answer gave me my first real belly laugh of the day, i really needed it after a sad night at work. i quite like the smileys too :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Wow, some really great areas you've identified so far.

In a nutshell so far:

A lot of you like the UK slant with US input also.

Some of you don't like the SDD, some of you do. I'm not sure about this - I don't know if the Community Board is right for them either, though? I've always seen the SDD as a way of sharing excitement about your trip with those you have planned the trip with (and not all of the folks on here visit the UK Community Board). Happy to hear more views on this issue?

Some of you like Smileys, some of you don't ;)

my other choice would be a specific UK board about trip planning for places other than Florida.
This is a really interesting idea. Do you think it would get used enough?

the one thing which I personally don't see the point of are posts about how many posts people have made
I agree 100% these don't live on Trip Planning and I will move them to the CB.

There is a lot of general Orlando information that could usefully be included in the sticky thread, as long as it's kept up-to-date. There's always the danger that sticky threads become part of the background and no-one notices they're there after a while, so they get forgotten
This is so true and I think can easily happen!

maybe just needs more active modding i.e getting rid of the off topic threads.
I can promise you I will pay attention to that :teeth: Though ironically I am away most of next week with work so you will have to all bear with me I'm afraid :)

Does that sum it up so far?? Have I missed anything?

Please do keep adding to this thread, I am really keen to hear all your points of view :) :)

Thank you

Karen

i love this board.....i find that it has the most useful information of any of the boards on the dis..
and is frequented by a very knowledgeable group of people....when i have a question, no matter how obscure, it's usually answered shortly thereafter with really great answers...

my only problem is i hope i don't annoy everyone by the fact that i'm not British and I don't live in the UK....
I'm an American living on the same side of the Atlantic as all of you (and i've been using Simon's book for years), so i find lots of really great information on this board that's very helpful to an 'expat' living far far from home......

I am not saying I am 'anti-smiley' as I use them myself.

However, when there are hundreds (exaggeration) of them jumping or bouncing around I think it's a bit over the top.
If other people like them fine, just not my thing I guess.

The reason I look at these boards is to see what people are saying, maybe ask advice, give advice, share opinions - to me that's what it is all about.

Hello all :)

I love the TP board :) I think some of the things that you find on TPA&S and Restaurants etc sometimes we miss it would be nice to have them posted on UK TP too.... How about a thread about MNSSHP/MVMCP etc like the ones on TPA&S. It was ages until I knew about Lilo and Stitch at Ohana's :)

I don't like too many sticky's. Post for celebrations, I feel should be posted on UK Comm and not UK TP, ie, 100 days to go, my tickets just came....etc, etc. I think these could swamp the proper planning posts if that makes sense.

HTH :)

I love the fact that this board is usually one of the first places that you can go to for up to date information on all the things associated with planning to go to, or being at Disney.

DW and I have had a reasonable amount of experience in planning trips to WDW but I know that if we ever have a question regarding something we don't know or if we need some more up to date information then a quick post here and our questions will all be answered.

The DIS in general is also such a friendly place compared with some of the other boards that are out there :teeth:

Having surfed around other sites I have to say this one comes up with the best complete answers to queries. I have learnt so much from others questions and people are really friendly and generally dont bite your head off. I am recognising some names that are nearly always around when theres a disagreement but everyones entitled to their opinion and boy some like it aired!!!!

Karen, I come to the trip planning board to get insight into our future trip. Either asking questions or joining in on others discussions :)

I have to say I love adding to SDD posts as it is a great way to feel that you are sharing in someone's delight :goodvibes To me they are a countdown to a trip and therefore seem suited to trip planning board.

Post celebrations hopefully are always moved to Community board if some one miss posts them here.

I'd agree too many sticky's can mean trawling through lots of information or off putting posts saying read the FAQ  These boards I've always found the friendliest that I frequent.

I'm not sure we need too many changes :) ;)

I love seeing the sdd dances, as I think its great we can share in someone elses excitement at their trip being so close.

Love the smileys too.

I would love to see a sticky with the restaurant details and maybe even reviews on it, by uk disers, as our tastes seem to differ alot from the other side of the pond.

I arnt so keen on warning posts though (ie the one about crossing the road and the accident that happened) as I dont think its part of the planning, you should be as careful away as you are at home, (preparing to be flamed).
