What do you have your AC set at?

We don't have central air. Wall unit for the main part of the house and window a/c for the bedrooms.
There is no temp on my bedroom one, or the wall a/c.
If it's hot I turn it on, when I get cold, I turn it off.

Sometimes, I look at the thermostat on the wall that records the temp in house, and it looks like I tend to turn it on when my house gets in the low 80s and I turn it off when it hits about 72,73. But I don't do it based on the number, just on how I feel.
My kids' a/cs are set to 67 at night.
I keep my bedroom as cold as it will get. I need it cold to sleep because I need to sleep with a comforter all year round.

I keep mine at 79F for the day during the summer months. The heat typically doesn't bother me much.

I don't see the point in keeping the house cooler than what we are comfortable in. For us, it's not about money, it's about comfort. We can also regulate the humidity through the HVAC system in the house and that makes a huge difference.

I don't see the point in keeping it warmer than I'm comfortable in. A lot of this is clearly personal because if it's 76 out, I'm likely putting on the ac because that's too warm for me - and a lot of y'all are keeping it warmer than that INSIDE!

I'm perfectly comfortable with it set in the low 60s. No sweater, shorts and a tshirt. If it were 80 in here I'd be miserable. If it's 80 outside I don't like it at all. Just personal - those of us with it low aren't keeping it cooler than we're comfortable, we're keeping it cooller SO THAT we're comfortable, heh.

We've also had record heat. I've had ours set at 78 during the day but it drops down to 75 at night. We replaced our windows a few years ago and I also keep our blinds/curtains closed when the sun in shining on them.

Lou, the Mister Fix--It on WGN radio, said that if the temp outside is above 90, to switch the fan on the AC from "auto" to "on". If it's under 90 outside, set the fan to "auto".

Comfort with temps is an individual matter.

When it gets below 78, I put on long pants and if it gets below 75, I put on a sweater.

I'm not really warm for me until it's at least 80 degrees. My perfect temp would be 85. But even when our temps were over 100, I was fine. I wouldn't be stupid enough to go out jogging or anything, but I wasn't dying and racing into AC the way other people are.

We keep ours set at 74 but sometimes I get hot while doing house work so I bump it down to 72. I also bump it down if we have company over because I would the for someone to get hot while visiting my house. We keep our ceiling fans going to help circulate the air. I also tune it down sometimes at night because I can't sleep if I m hot.

72...but our upstairs is more like 76 and our downstairs is more like 70...uggghhh. I like it around 72-74 all over.

We were thinking about painting our roof white, my mom did it and it cut her bill way down, and her inside house temperature dropped by 10 degrees. Has anyone else tried this? Some of your houses seem so chilly willy to me! I'd need a sweater! :goodvibes

Aren't you in nyc? It hasn't below 80 all summer & there haven't been that many days below 90 so you must be dying.

70 degrees in the summer and 70 degrees in the winter. My summer bills are about $30.00 per month more then the winter. I wouldn't care if they were $100.00 more. I will cut back on something else if it means I can be comfortable.

I also have a theory (not scientific, just observation) that once you get your house to a certain temperature it doesn't take anymore electricity to keep it that way no matter what it's set at if the outside temperature is high enough. The AC is going to run just as much one way or the other. If it's 100 degrees outside it will take the same amount of time to raise the internal temps enough to kick on the AC no matter what. 70, 75, 80...all the same.

I used to have that discussion with my mother all the time. She would shut the AC off until it got so uncomfortable that she couldn't stand it, then she would turn it on. It would run and run and run trying to cool the house down. Then she would shut it off and repeat the cycle again later. Mine comes on for a few minutes and it's done.

Regardless, life is too short. If I can avoid being uncomfortable, I will do whatever is necessary.

77? 78?? 82??? You guys are going to need to air condition your air conditioned rooms!

I'm with Cornflake on this one. Mine stays at 67 day and night.

I'm SO with ya! 68 at the highest. I'll pay the bill, I hate to sweat.

70 all the time. I don't see a point to using an air conditioner if you're going to keep it on 80.

We have budget billing for electric so it evens out our payments over the year so we don't have $300 electric bills over the summer and $40 bills in the winter (heat, gas, and hot water are included in our rent).

Ours is set at 77 or 78 and everyone here sits under a blanket when they are watching tv under the ceiling fan. If my house was set in the lower 70's or 60's I would FREEZE! I hate going to my Mother in laws house because it's set on 68-70 and I have to wear a jacket in the house.

Now I understand why it was so miserable in any place we went into on our way to Disney. Stop in a restaurant, miserably hot. Stop in any store, convenience store, gas station, miserably hot. We wondered repeatably if anyone down south had air conditioning.

actually depends on the humidity outside. Lately humidity has been off the charts so we keep it at 76 degrees.

I actually can take the heat if there is no humidity. I hate sleeping in the cold air.

My temps are set at 80. I keep the blinds closed and the ceiling fan in the living room on all the time. I turn on the ceiling fan in the bedroom at night. It is 7 pm and the outside temp is 93 right now. I live on retirement income and can't afford to keep it cooler!

83 during the day when we aren't home, down to 80 at 5pm, then up to 88 at 8pm. At 8pm we open the doors & windows w/ fans.

I could not imagine having it in the 60's
