Friends of ours are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary (how did that happen we aren't old enough). I just don't know what to get them. They are good friends, in fact she is my ds godmother. I am just stuck. I figure you guys are so good at helping people maybe you can send some ideas my way. Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 25 years the silver anniversary? For my ex-in-laws 25th, we got them a silver photo album engraved with their names and anniversary date and on top of that, it said, "25 years of happiness." They filled the album with their wedding pictures.

Another vote for gift certificates. I'd imagine they'll probably receive a lot of trinkets, etc. I always err on the side of practical usage myself. :)

Yes 25 is silver, but his parents a throwing them a party and they really don't need dust collectors(not that I am implying that a frame is a dust collector) and I thought about the gift certificate but that just seemed so impersonal. Thank you for your suggestions

A very good freind of mine who will remain nameless knows her DH is looking for love when he breaks out the Coast soap :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Just kidding, a gift certificate is always a nice gift :cheer2:

Holy, crap. Are you kidding? What a loser :rotfl2:

HI, we just had an aunt and uncle celebrate their 25th. We surprised them with dinner at a fancy place in town they would never have gone themselves. Then, we gave them a frame that had a place to put a wedding and a current picture. They were very thrilled.

We enjoyed gift certificates when we had ours. At our stage of life, dinner a show and a nap were the best!

we took the kids to Disney for our 25th so we really didn't have a party, but the neatest gift we got was a framed wedding picture from my DM and DF. The kids couldn't believe we ever looked like that!!

I went a different route and gave my sister and her husband a Merry Moo Moo 25th Anniversary figuerine. She collects them. Now two years later, they are getting a divorce.

I've also given a Cherished Teddies 25th Anniversary figuerine a couple of times. They are different. It all depends on the couple. Some like that kind of thing and some don't.

My cousin recently celebrated her 25th. They have an awesome marriage. In this day of so much divorce, we wanted them to know how special we think they are. We gave them a gift certificate to a nice restaurant, a bottle of champagne, a plate of home made chocolate covered strawberries...and took her kids for the weekend. She cried.

I would probably throw them a nice party. My parents had their 25th aniversary in May of 2001, and our family threw them a small party at a local country club. It was really nice.

As a gift though? Maybe a gift certificate to a nice day spa for the two of them to enjoy.

We essentially look the same - at least to our kids. Both of us, luckily, weigh a bit less that we did 25 years ago. I look the same except for the gray hair. DW looks the same except now she has short hair (that is miraculously the same color it was 25 years ago ;) ). Pretty low key celebration for us. I should probably ask DW if it was TOO low key, now that I read this thread (it was only last April).

Thank you all for your suggestions, it looks like I may go with the gift certificate. Now what restaurant should I pick...........

Gift certificates for restaurants or movie theaters.
This is what we did. We went in with 2 other couples and got them a GC for a nice restaurant.

You know, with gift certificates, don't just limit yourselves to restaurants. You can get gift certificates to hotels, theaters(movie & live), sporting events.

Funny you should mention a hotel. I was thinking of calling a few other couples and getting a night at a hotel. DInner the room and breakfast.

Well another couple came up with the idea of shredding newspaper and adding dollar bills, this would make them have to work for the gift. :rolleyes1 . So I suggested since its their 25th we should put in quarters. Aren't we great friends. I'm not sure where this will go, but I wanted you to know there may be a decision on the gift soon.

I like the idea of a certificate for a nice restaurant, and I have a couple of other suggestions:

(1) For one of the guys in my office that got married, we got a nice wooden jewelry box (made of koa, a nice wood here in Hawaii), and we filled it with sacajawea dollar coins (the gold-looking ones). He was so thrilled! When he lifted the cover up, it looked like a treasure chest.

(2) If you know of any causes they support, maybe just give a monetary donation to a charity in their name?

I guess it all depends on the kind of people they are, and what you think would best suit their personality.
