Adults who have everything they need, smaller house so they don't need any more stuff. They are my husband's parents.

Thought about gift cards for dining. Maybe, maybe not.

Adopted a Wolf from Yellowstone for my son who is going into Wildlife Biology next fall, but that won't do for the in-laws.

Any ideas???

for Mom: g.c. for a mani/pedi. for her it is a luxury because she cant bend over very well to do her own.
for Dad: g.c to his fav restaurant.

heated throw. older folks get so cold. can use a throw watching t.v. in living room or on top of bed when sleeping. Most have a safety feature when they turn off after a couple hours.

This sounds like my parents. We are getting my Dad a shaving soap box thing from The Art of Shaving and some specialty oils and vodka from Vom Foss http://www.vomfassusa.com/ . My stepmom we are getting Ikea gift cards and something else that I don't know what yet :lmao:. I also found my Dad a coffee mug that looks like a chemistry beaker (he is a retired Chemist) and I am looking for something about being retired for my step-mom as she retires at the end of this month.

My mom loves to go to the movies so I get her gift cards for the local movie theater.

Do they have a favorite charity? We used to donate to my MIL's favorite charity each year and she loved that.

How about things that get used up? Like magazine subscriptions? My brother is always clever like that - we usually get Coffee of the month for a few months or for my birthday he sent 6 months of netflix.

Would they be interested in a museum membership or movie tix?

My Dsis and I are getting our Mom a bunch of Bath & Body stuff. She uses it and I know she likes it. Last year we gave them cash - they were going on a trip and it added to their fun money.

I think gift cards to restaurants they like is a great idea.

We got MIL a gift certificate to go towards the monthly electric bill at the cottage. :)

well, being the parent that doesn't really "need" anything, I still like to get gift cards to any kind of restaurant, movies.
Also like DVDs.
And things that get used......lotions, perfumes, food items

Thanks for the comments. I'm going to have to pass them off to my husband.

Meriweather - I think I'm like you, too. Husband and son keep asking me what I want and I don't need any thing, other than someone to vacuum the house.

I have an Aunt and Uncle who have everything they could ever need, and then some, so I send them little indulgences. One year I sent them an Edible Arrangements bouquet. One year a gift certificate to a celebrity chef's restaurant, Mario Batalli's Babbo. Last year I sent them a set of Bethlehem Light's Flameless Candles. This year I think we'll do another restaurant in NYC or possibly tickets to see the King Tut exhibit

They always appreciate this sort of stuff.

We give my inlaws gift cards to restaurants near us. A combination gift and invitation for them to visit.

For my mom, we're renewing her netflix subscription. I also got her some butterfly wall mirrors because she loves butterflies.

For my Dad I got him a nature video called Echoes of Creation. I saw it on PBS and it is stunning.

A couple of years ago we got DH's grandma the nature video called The Life Of Birds. She loved it. This year I am getting her Winged Migration and Nature's Most Amazing Events.

DH is getting his parents a Gift Certificate to a local theater (plays and musicals, not movies).

Newspaper subscription, magazine subscription that they would enjoy, donation to a charity they support, membership to a gym...after my Dad died, we got my Mom a membership to the ambulance service a couple years since her health was bad and she couldn't drive herself to the hospital if something happened.

grandkids and make a calendar online. We have used Walmart.com with ship to store.. you probably still have time. They are $15 and very nice. My kids are 9/11 and did it all themselves.

A basket of food treats....and you can do it again next year because it will be gone by then. My Dad loves breadsticks, olive salad, etc. I just buy a few extras while doing the holiday shopping. He's happy, I'm happy, one less thing to stress over.

Before we lost Mom, her favorite was an electric throw. She felt cold all the time and that thing was amazing. Under $25, but she was happy and warm.

I got my parents (whose house is already filled with clutter) a gift certificate to a nice restaurant that they would enjoy (i.e. not one of their regular haunts). I also got a 1000 piece puzzle they could do together. They enjoy that kind of thing.

Other ideas depending on budget:
Spa cards (for mom)
Golf cards (for dad)
Maybe a weekend away (Costco had some interesting deals)
Gym membership
Movie tickets
Lobstergram! We got one of these one year, and it was a big hit with us. But we like to cook and entertain.

It depends on what your parents enjoy.

We are giving my folks a year membership to AAA and a gift certificate to a business that does housework and yardwork along with a few "wrappables".
