On a Park Day?

Do you have back up plan for when it's raining? I don't mean drizzling or a few drops, I mean storming rain?

I've never had that happen, but my plan would be to throw on my poncho and head to DTD to DisneyQuest, or go have a leisurely breakfast at Kona and just ride the storm out. If it was the afternoon, I'd sit myself on stool at the ESPN club and just hang out there. Ds would probably want to sleep...

LOL - we go to the parks anyway! There is always something to do in the rain, no matter which park. We've made some of our best memories during storms, and the wait in lines is usually really short.

But, I know lots of people that either go to Disney Quest or to the movies.

We go hit the parks too! It is great bc the parks are less crowded bc the rain keeps alot of people away and we take advantage of it. Plus, my kids love being out in the rain in WDW bc they usually aren't allowed to play in it at home. We have alot of great memories of riding rides in the rain. I say throw on your ponchos and hit the parks!

We go anyway. I remember one time we got so wet that we were in the restroom drying our socks off on the hand dryer. We still had fun though and the crowds were alot lighter than they would have been if it wasn't raining.

The only time I have been on Astro Orbiters was in the pouring rain! I never would wait in the extremely slow and long lines for such a lame ride but since there was 0 line we walked on and rode. Go to the parks anyway, you won't melt.

Lots of the rides still operate in the RAIN, it's the lightning that will close down Dumbo, Astro Orbitors, the Magic Carpets.

Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain, etc., all the indoor rides still operate in storms (at least they have when I've been in the Magic Kingdom during storms!).

You grab a poncho (no umbrellas please) and some shoes that can get wet and you go to the park as planned. Our best MK day ever has been in the rain. We practically had the park to ourselves. No waiting for anything. We rode a few rides back to back. The CMs let us stay on for an extra ride because nobody was waiting to get on. My girls and I stomped in puddles and danced in the rain. Yes, I'm sure I looked silly, but so what. Nobody was there to see me anyway, and we had the time of our lives. The Orlando commercial where the adults turn into kids and just have fun playing reminds me of that rainy day in the park. It was the best.

Remember that it's central Florida -- by the time you reach the park it will most likely have stopped.

Put on your poncho and your sport sandals and go full speed ahead to the parks.

Two years ago when we went it was stormy 2 or 3 days of our trip. We went ahead and put on our overly priced Poncho's (bring your own from home if you think it might rain) and our shoes that could get wet and headed to the parks. We watched the parades in the rain, rode the rides and one day we walked Epcot in the pouring rain.

At the end of the trip I was surprised to see a collector pin that had Mickey in a yellow poncho....needless to say that was my pin for the year :)

If you happen to be in that kind of weather and can get to Epcot, it's a great park to see in the weather. Both The Land and The Seas pavillions can easily take an hour or more each, and the Innoventions buildings also take a lot of time. All are indoors and heated or air-conditioned, according to the season. That's where I would head if I knew it was going to be a steady rain.

If it's just "Florida" rain, it usually comes and goes pretty quickly. I have memories of shopping for a LONG time in the Villians store at MGM while waiting for a cloudburst to stop!!!

Actually, we took a little "mini-trip" (3 days) last June and two of those days it POURED for a good portion of the day. We were so happy!!! We had been in Orlando the year before in June and it was HOT and CROWDED - but in the POURING RAIN - it was so nice- cooler and no crowds to battle!!!! :-)

Now, granted, we had been there for our "real" vacation only a month before, so we would have probably been a bit disappointed if this was more than tagging along with DH and doing a long weekend at the parks while he was at a conference - but truthfully, it was so much fun- we were soaked and having a blast. (Even with our ponchos we got wet- but there was no waits for anything!!!)

For all those folks who say you just put on the poncho and go - How?

We were there last year on July 4th week. The first day it rained we were eating dinner at Crystal Palace and the heavens opened up. We went out to find everything flooded. You just couldn't walk without wading through several inches of water. We were wearing sneakers so we were basically stuck. We tried to go to the Hall of Presidents but they had the air-conditioning really going and it was too cold. We ended up leaving the park.

The next time it rained we were at MGM. This time there was also a lot of lightening so we just huddled down under an awning with everyone else. When it let up a bit we did go do a couple more things but we weren't very comfortable. When wearing a poncho your arms and legs still get a bit wet. And then everything is airconditioned. Brrrr.

On our last day it started raining midday. We decided to go back to the room and pack and we'd head out for dinner later. Well it never really stopped. At one point it let up a bit and the kids happened to notice that they had opened up the pool. Of course they needed to go swimming. All the lifeguards were wearing coats. Again Brrrr. This is Florida in July?

This was the first trip where we experienced a lot of rain and after it I have to admit I am puzzled by those who say they keep going.

It wasn't a park day, but during the last day of our trip a couple of years ago, it poured down rain ALL day long. At first my DH wanted to just stay around the resort and relax, but I really wanted to get out and do something...I mean common, it was our last day at Disney. He then agreed so we packed up the kids and headed on over to DTD and had lunch at Capn' Jacks and shopped for last minute items and souveniers. We had so much fun walking from one store to the next in the rain....I would do that again.:goodvibes

Last year it stormed pretty bad when we went to AK......Yes, we were a little cold, but honestly we just kept on going, and had a wonderful time. The park virtually cleared out of everyone and we had no wait times....rode the safari 3 times, all the animals were out. Went on Kail, what the heck, we were already soaked. We had on tennis shoes but once you are wet, you are wet, so may as well make the best of it. It was the best day we had there. Plus with the overcast skys, your photos will turn out great!!! One of our favorite photos is of us, wet to the bone, but with big smiles on our faces in the empty animal kingdom

We spent out last day at MK and it poured for most of it. We had ressies at Crystal Palace so that helped with the coverage end of it. Then we walked around in ponchos and got SOAKED. We watched two sets of fireworks in the rain (we had tickets to MVMCP) and the parade was held during the rain. We were a bit uncomfortable, but there were lulls in the downpour so it was not too bad.

I had a change of clothes for DD, three and change at the time, so I took her in and dried her really well in the bathroom after the 6pm fireworks. Just more of the adventure. We did not have water proof shoes, which was a bit of a pain, but back at the resort we put them in the dryer.

It was not an ideal way to spend an afternoon and evening, but I have told everyone about it because it was so different. Don't let the weather keep you home!!

Enjoy!!

How do we just go, well for your situation at CP that would never hold us back because I always pack flip flops for us to wear and we change into them and keep our sneakers dry and change back when the rain has finished.

I also regardless of the time of year always have a jacket to put on especially for restaurants during the summer. For me the first couple of minutes in a restaurant are refreshing, but once my body adjusts, I get cold and need something to put on.

I also always have a bathing suit for the kids to change into and sometimes an extra pair of shorts so they can play in the fountains and such or if we are going to ride Kali River Rapids.

I guess I am over prepared for everything, but I have learned the hard way over the yrs and now am ready for anything!
