What do you do when in nassau???

Don't think the planned excursions will work as there seems to be a lot of working which I don't think will work for our youngest kids........ages 4&6
So should we venture out on our own or stay on ship. I know my hubby wants to do some gambling at Atlantis & I would not mind seeing the resort myself, but I don't think I want to rent a day room to enjoy what the resort has to offer in the way of their pools and water recreation. I would love to hang out at the pool or stroll along the beach while hubby gambles.......wonder why Disney doesn't offer a day excursion at the resort with the water option??? Any suggestions on what might work for us and our kids ages 14,8,6,4

Personally, I recommend staying on the ship. There are activities such as movies etc. (check the navigators on my site for details) and the pools and other areas of the ship will be relatively uncrowded. So much better than being chased around by women yelling, "Braid your hair, pretty lady?" while hubby is stalked by street merchants selling fake Cuban cigars.
Of course, we've been there many times. If this is your first time in Nassau, you can always take a cab to Atlantis (although I think the cost to see the aquarium is very high and the kids will probably be disspointed that they can's use the pools). Another option is to take a cab to the public beach, which is close enough for hubby to walk over there for gambling while you and the kids enjoy the water.

The most we venture off the ship is to walk the dock & go back - this is what we did both last trips & plan to do this time, too.

The only time I was in Nassau was on another cruise years ago & that helped make my decision when we went on DCL. Barb (inkkognito) is right - the people around the dock areas can be, shall we say, 'quite pushy'. Not my idea of a vacation.

I hear people talk about some of the excursions & like them, but there is so much to do on the ship (& part of that is just relaxing around the pool while the ship empties off) that I really don't want to pay the exorbitant extra prices for the excursions.

I'd say stay on the ship. The people on Nassau scared my four year old daughter, she was shy and they kept touching her. It took me years to get her back on a cruise.
It's also a nice day on the ship to try a restaurant you may have missed for lunch and enjoy the boat since it's not very crowded.

There is a hotel called Comfort Inn or Suites I believe, I"ll have to double check, but you can make a reservation there. I booked at a rate for $130.00 a night and you have the same privies as you do as if you were staying at the Atlantis Paradise. This includes the Dig, which I think is the aquarium, the beach and the pools. Just a thought. You might have to book two rooms though for the amount of people in your family. Don't know if this would cost effective for you but for us I think it's going to be fine. That way your family can hang out by the pool and your husband can gamble. I'll let you know how it goes as my first cruise will be on October 9th.
