 This is not mum4jenn. This is dd speaking!

We normally go to Disney World, but we can't.
So what do you do?
Decorate a christmas tree?
Search for the pickle? (there is a whole legend about that!) :surfweb:

:scared:
This year we can only use the "Dwarf tree"

Why?

We usually open presents, enjoy a family breakfast and then have dinner for the extended family here or at someones elses house. This year I would love to just stay home, relax and enjoy my family!:)

OK...This time I Am Mum4jenn. I see my dd started a topic!!!

I was trying to think what the Dwarf Tree was and then it came to me.

Two years ago our 7 foot tree had seen its better days so we threw it away thinking we would buy another one in the after Christmas sales. I could not find one so we put it off. Then last year we were at WDW for Christmas and we bought a very small 2 foot (or was it 3 foot) tree for the condo we stayed in. This year we can't afford a new tree because of the reduction in Dh's hours (things are VERY VERY tight this year. Sooooo..we will just have to use the "Dwarf Tree"

I asked my niece what she wanted to do for her ideal Christmas (she's 11). Usually, we go somewhere to open presents on Christmas Eve and then have a pretty laid back Christmas Day and play games, have dinner.

Here's her plan:

We all meet at my house at 5 pm on Christmas Eve and eat chicken and salad.

We play games and watch a Christmas movie. The games she wants to play are apple bobbing and the fishing game (with a fishing line over a wall and get a toy or something on the end) that you usually see at carnivals.

Then, she wants us to all get glow lights and flash lights and sit in my basement with the fire going and tell scary stories. She wants us to all have air mattresses and sleep down there. She even made a diagram of where she wants us to sleep.

On Christmas Day, she wants us to wake up and have cocoa then open stockings. Make s'mores in the fireplace, have monkey bread (pull aparts, whatever you want to call them), talk a lot, and then open presents. Then we are supposed to have dinner consisting of ham, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn all mixed together with cottage cheese on top (yes, seriously, she thinks this is good and would eat it).

That's not what's going to happen but that's her ideal. :)

Well, our Christmas this year will consist of going to our niece's home for Christmas Eve where we have a big buffet and open a few presents. Christmas Day most of the family will come to our house mid morning. We will open presents, have coffee, tea, cocoa and donuts from Dunkin Donuts 2 days before (it's become an eye-rolling tradition). After the extended family leaves we have snacks, watch A Christmas Carol (B/W, 1951?), and then open our immediate family presents. I really like to try to stretch the day out and enjoy every minute. :goodvibes

Oh, you know, the usual.

Worry that we have to have make and attend two Christmases and never have one to ourselves, then worry we didn't buy everyone the right thing, or worry that they think we are cheap this year (oh, we will be!)

Then, worry we didn't spend enough time with my mom vs. my dad, then I'll get all upset and then DH will tell me it isn't my fault my parents divorced and still can't talk to each other even though it's been over 10 years. And then we'll say that if we had kid(s) it would be different as we'd call the shots but that isn't to be!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Maybe next year we'll go to Fiji!
