What do you cook your pancakes on?

I have this cast iron griddle that my Mom bought me over 20 years ago. It has ridges on one side to make burgers on and the other side is smooth to cook pancakes or grilled cheese, etc. Well over the years it has gotten kind of gross. I scrubbed it ever time I used it - maybe that was my mistake, but the burger side got hamburger stuck on it, I had to use a plastic scrubby on it to get the food off. The pancake side was easier to clean, but the grease has kind of built up on it and it's kind of gunky. And rust is developing in some areas.
So we have this electric thing, like a George Forman only a different brand. I tried making pancakes on it using the flat griddles and leaving it open. It took f-o-r-e-v-e-r......

Hi!

I use an electric griddle with the temperature set to 350. Works like a charm!!

Electric skillet for large batch pancake mornings and a regular skillet on the stove for small batch times.

My Mom bought me a fold up waffle iron/griddle combo about 12 years ago and it is still going strong. One side makes waffles and the other side is flat which is great for making pancakes. When I am not using it it folds up for easy storage in a cabinet.

My parents always had one of the large countertop griddles for pancakes and bacon but I never have lived in a house with enough counter space for one of those.

Same here. I used to try and make them on the stovetop and could never get it right but they are perfect every time on my electric griddle!

I make mine in a skillet on the stove top. DD eats pancakes 4 or 5 times a week for breakfast.

In a skillet, on the stove top.....works fine for me. :)

If you got rust on a cast iron item, then you cleaned it incorrectly. With proper care, these things last generations. My mother has been using the same deep cast iron skillet for 30+ years. That thing is older then I am!

I use an electric skillet for pancakes. I am looking for a good cast iron griddle though.

I use a nonstick skillet (good ole fryng pan:)), but I have a square one just for pancakes and grilled cheese.

I got one of those nonstick skillets at Linens & Things (RIP) and it covers two burners. I can do 8 pancakes at a time so a double batch takes about 4 go-rounds, and that gets us through "breakfast for dinner" (about once a week) with some left to throw in the freezer! :thumbsup2

What she said. Before I had a square one with lower sides I would just use a regular frying pan. Never have had an issue with my pancakes.

But now I am craving some and that *might* be an issue.

For those of you with electric griddles - what brand do you have and is it the long rectangular kind that can cook 8 pancakes at a time?

I have a griddle skillet (square with low sides) that I use for pancakes or grilled cheese. We also have an electric skillet that we occassionaly use. Our electric skillet is a foldable one and the grill plates come out and can go in the dishwasher.

Ditto! I always make a double batch and freeze the left overs. Pancakes freeze really well, I just defrost in the nuke box for 1 minute then finish in the toaster oven.

I can make them on my gas stove in a large skillet (the square kind with the low sides) but find the electric griddle is easier to use since it has a thermostat that can keep the temp more even, and I can make 6-8 at once rather than 4.

Unless storage stoarge space is an issue, I always recomend having an electric griddle! :)
