What do you carry in your carry-on bag?

It's been a long time since I've traveled (pre-911) and it's our first time flying as a family. I'm curious what others take on their carry-on bag. Or do you even use a carry-on bag? I'm considering checking all the bags. Tell me why I should or shouldn't? Thanks!

check out the airline web sites, very strict rules now. no more than 3 ounces of liquid & the containers need to be carried in a 'ziplock' quart sized bag.

One day's worth of clothes, just in case I lose luggage. A pair of shorts for later on in the day, since I'm more comfortable flying in pants. Reading for the plane, some food (typically a protein bar and dried fruit), my quart size ziplock bag of liquids and TRAVEL DOCUMENTS. I keep confirmation numbers etc, in a padded mailer.

My blackberry doubles as an MP3 player, I pare down the wallet so all it has is the ATM card, drivers license, and insurance cards. I actually bought a tiny Kipling sling which holds basically the wallet, sunglasses, and day to day essentials that doesn't need to be taken off on the plane.

I carry snacks for plane, tickets, ressies, camera, change of clothes and swim suit (plus any valuables). We each have a carry on - 2 adults and kids (12 and 14). Keep it light but enough to get by the first day with no luggage. I don't take shampoo because I know there is some in the room to hold me over until we get our luggage. I like to bring a hand full of Disney trivia cards to pass the time waiting for the plane. I also have ear planes and sinus tablets to help daughter with less pain in her ears and lots of gum for the rest of us.

If for work: My laptop, chargers, batteries, magazines, work files, cables, testers, mp3 player, cell phone, sunglasses, my organizer with all iteneraries, ibuprofen, tums.

For pleasure: My laptop, wife's laptop, son's PSP or DS, my MP3 player, our 3 cell phones, chargers for all that, sunglasses, magazines, games and or dvd's, my organizer with all iteneraries, ibuprofen, tums.

Glad it's a backpack :)

I'd like to bring my laptop so I can download our pictures on a daily basis. I'm assuming this would be a carry-on?

I bring all my video, camera, DD ds, laptop, and all chargers, and all confirmation numbers, and any thing that is valuable. I spoke with the airlines that I am flying with and they said you can bring 1 carry on and a purse or laptop per person. This was Continental. Lucky for me we have good luck with our luggage, or we would have to wear the same clothes everday. :rotfl2:

Anything you cannot live without for 24 hours or anything you can't replace. Liquid limits are important of course - but those limits are one per paid flier so you can actually take plenty on a plane for emergency use.

Cameras, other valuables - none of that should be checked.

we each --me, DH, DD 12, DS 9, DD 8--take a carry on back pack (hands free in airport!)
I have travel documents, medicines (prescription, rolaids and tylenol), bathing suit, flip flops, make up, brush, my book, gum, a few snacks, sunglasses, travel size sun screen(remember the 3 oz. rule!), deodorant, change of underwear and cell phone .
DH and the kids each have their IPODS, sunglasses, bathing suits, flip flops, change of underwear and snacks/stuff to do on the plane.

we carry the bathing suits, flip flops and sunscreen 'cause as soon as we check in, we head to the pool while our luggage makes it to the room. I have the undies/deodorant just in case.....we can last at least another 24 hours!

It is no big deal doing carry ons. We might spend an extra 15 minutes checking in but that is worth it in order to have what my family needs to keep them happy all day!:)

My carryon has cash, jewelry, medications, camera, laptop, cellphone, wallet, trip itinerary (flight, resort & car), park passes, eyeglasses/sunglasses, reading material for the airplane & a brush.

I pack a carry-on with the "essentials" that I'd need that first day if my checked luggage gets lost. I have had my luggage lost on flights three times!

So I pack prescription meds (very important!); valuables like my camera and cell phone; change of clothes; toiletries (in containers that are 3 ounces or less, all fitting in a quart-size ziploc); and other items I just couldn't live without if my luggage is lost.

(PS - my cousin came to visit me last summer, and foolishly packed her prescription meds in her checked luggage. Of course, her bag was lost and we had to make a midnight run to a 24-hour Walgreens. What a hassle! Always, always, always pack prescription meds in your carry-on!)

We are packing everything in our carry-ons!
We are staying in a house with washer/dryer where we can do laundry so we are packing only enough for three days each. We will be making a grocery run when we get there so I'll just grab shampoo and sunscreen then; no 3 ounce bottles to worry about.
I'm a light packer by nature anyway so this is perfect for me. :thumbsup2

I always take a carry-on. I put as much in it as I can. Extra clothes, bathing suit, toiletries (new 311 rule), make-up, ALL valuables. THe checked baggage is only for the stuff I can't fit in my carry-on.

Let me try to run down what I packed in my carry-on during my recent business trip. (Driving to Disney, so the car is my carry-on bag! :rotfl: )

Extra underwear, ziploc bag with toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, small lotion, lip balm, contact solution; glasses; sunglasses; my iPhone; a book; knitting; gum; my makeup; prescription meds; charger; and shoulder wrap for the plane.

What airline do you fly with?? Let me know so I don't fly with them!:lmao:

For kids in diapers, don't forget to pack jammies and night time diapers/Pull Ups in your carry on bag, just in case the ME luggage takes its sweet time to arrive!

When we travel, DH carries the laptop, camera, chargers, cell phones, Ipod, book, change of clothes, etc. We use the laptop on the plane to let the girls watch a movie.

The girls will each have their own backpack on wheels. They will take one favorite dolly, Leapster + games, Gloldfish snacks, small playthings, a change of clothes for once we arrive, esp if we are going from a cold to warm climate or vice versa.

I get everthing else. Yes, I am a pack mule. :lmao:
Diapers/wipes to last a while, just in case! Extra undies for the girls and me, change of clothes for me, book or magazine (but I usually can't read anything!), stickers, lollipops an gum for plugged ears, some new small toys that we've never seen before, meds, Epi Pens and chewable Benadryl (DD has a peanut allergy), extra snacks, empty sippy cups (will try to get apple juice through security - I think that's acceptable), my make up, hairbrush, etc. I'm sure there is more!

Always pack my bathing suit as if the luggage got lost I'd have a hard time finding a new suit that I liked. Med's, a book, snacks in case you end up delayed on the plane, my camera and all travel papers.:lmao:

In my carry-ons I bring an extra change of clothes and my swimsuit (if you're using Magical Express the luggage can take a few hours to get to your room), snacks, a Ziploc of liquids (3 oz. or less), lotion, lip gloss, Tylenol, gum, reading glasses, sunglasses, cell phone, I-Pod, reading material, camera, and travel documents (including driver's license!). I'm sure I'm forgetting some things! Make sure to leave room in your carry-ons or check-in luggage for the souvenirs you'll be bringing home!! Have a great trip! :goodvibes

We only use carry-ons!!
We ship all our toiletries, snacks, water, etc... to the resort a few days before our trip.(UPS, less than $20 and no hassle with toiletries at the airport) We are DVC'ers so we have a washer/dryer in our room which allows us to pack less. For a weeks stay we each have a carry-on(2 kids 2 adults) I pack 1 outfit for each day, shoes, PJ's etc.. for each person. We don't trust the airlines with our bags and even though we use DME, we don't trust them with the bags either!LOL We get on the DME bus with our bags and they store them underneath the bus. This way we have them in case our room is ready when we check in, and it usually is. We have had the airline loose a bag of ours once and believe me that won't happen again! It was a nightmare!
