Every year I struggle to figure out what I'll get my kid's teachers for the holidays. I'd love to hear what everyone does! Any teachers out there with some suggestions? I'm sure you can only have one #1 teacher cup or bag!

John-Cole has 2 teachers. One of them collects birdhouses so we usually find her some type little birdhouse ornament or something. His other teacher is a male and we usually buy him a box of candy.

and Resource Coordinator.."snow globe" tree ornaments for Afterschool Teachers (6 of them!!) and other support staff...like the nice lady at my son's cafeteria...

Try to pick a "gift theme" every year, and buy however many I need...

Makes life so much easier...!! LOL

My son and daughter go to a special need preschool, so between the therapists, teachers, and aids there are 12 people to buy for. Instead of individual gifts, I'm giving each room a basket of items that can be used in the classroom/shared between them (three rooms). Scented antibacterial soap from bath and body works, purell, hand lotion, candy, and misc. classroom supplies. With all that I'll still spend less than I would for individual gifts.

I always get gift certificates for the teachers. It's easier for me and the teachers always love them!

I suggest gift cards to book stores and office supply stores. I love getting them. Even if it is just for $5.00, it helps.

Happy Holidays!

This year the teachers have compiled a "wish list". It is stuff for the classroom (1st grade). I will get her something off that & a gift certificate.
Also dd has bought her a Christmas ornament to give her.

Older dd in middle school has 7 teachers so I don't know...last year I didn't get them anything.

I make a gift basket w/ candles and chocolates!

This year the kids are decorating bags for the teachers ( 6 between the three of them) and I will put in a card that they make, a jar mix of cookies and a candle that I made.

In the Spring I usually give the teachers a plant with a note that says " thanks for helping me grow!"

When DD was in elementary school, I always ended up buying the teachers candles. Most people like them and they're small and easy to carry to school.

I always wondered if everyone thinks the teachers have too many "World's Greatest Teacher" cups and doesn't buy them. Wouldn't that mean that the teachers never got any?;) Maybe one of our wonderful DIS teachers could comment on that.:D

I always buy a gift certificate to a bookstore. In addition to that our school has a book fair, and our teachers always have a "wish list" of books they want for the classroom, I buy off their as well so they have something to open along with the gift certificate.

DS#1's teacher had a wish list at the book fair, so we bought off of that and I'm making mini breads for each of their teachers.

I AM the teacher! Some of my favorite gifts ever... a bunch of flowers that one of my kids picked from his mom's garden (hope he got her permission), a gift certificate to a local restaurant, some books to put on my shelf at school (the kids know what I like), and a bag of "gourmet" rice from Louisiana (that one gets the prize for most creative).
What do I get for MY kid's teacher? His classroom teacher is getting a gift certificate for books for her classroom. (She's a fairly young teacher and is still building her classroom.) His extra special wonderful art teacher who works with him after school and encourages his love of Tolkien and all things Lord of the Rings gets a movie gift certificate just in time for the premiere of Return of the King. And his speech path who thinks she's his grandmother gets a gift certificate to her favorite restaurant. (One of his assignments: to surreptitiously find out exactly WHAT her favorite restaurant was!)

I'm someone who gets gifts FROM teachers! I am probably the only person on campus who delivers a service directly to the teachers (I run a copy center in a HS). I usually get candy, candles, mugs, ornaments - things like that.

Gift certificates for Holcomb's teacher supply for the main teachers for DD#2 (gr. 3) and DS (K). They can always use those. Homemade fudge for the "specials' (art. gym, music).
This year for the 3 brownie leaders and 3 dance teachers I am buying those 3 packs of Yankee Candles christmas scents and splitting them up between them.

Thanks Robin! I forgot all about DD's Girl Scout troop leaders....

My mom is an elementary school teacher. She always appreciates any gifts she receives, but has told me she has more than her share of coffee mugs, apple-related items and #1 teacher ANYTHING--especially tree ornaments, after 20+ years in education. So I'd advise against any of those.

Last year, I gave my kid's teachers and bus drivers Bath and Body Works or Starbucks gift certificates. They seemed happy with those!

My standard Christmas gift is a holiday pin ( a nice one from Burdines, around $15) and some small gifts for the classroom like books or general supplies.

This year I sent my kids teachers a questionaire(I'm the homeroom mom) of their wishes for the classroom as well as their personal favorites and I shopped off of that for classroom items. And, Of course they'll get their Holiday Pin.

Her is the flyer for my DD11's teacher, I was amazed that she had so few classroom requests...and she didn't want any books at all:

I am also a teacher! My favorite gifts last year were gift certificates! Some to local restaurants, some to our local mall, and some to Borders. I LOVE the idea of the basket of supplies for the classroom! Those are things I am always buying for my children with my own money...what a help that gift would be!

Neither of my kids are in school yet. But I just wanted to comment. My Aunt was a teacher (just retired) and she has a small 3ft tree in her house that she LOVES to put ONLY her teacher ornaments on. She has some as old as 30yrs.
