What do you budget for food per day?

Just wondering what a 'normal' food budget would be? There are 6 of us (2 parents, and 4 kiddos - all girls so small eaters!)

We are staying on site and have no transportation - so we will be on site the whole time.

DIS Dining Database

All depends on your eating habits. Are you breakfast eaters? Some people prefer taking muffins, cereal or poptarts to eat in their rooms rather than eating breakfast in a restaurant. Sit down lunches are generally cheaper than dinners. With 4 girls you may want to split meals. Drinks will also be a deciding factor....we always bring water into the parks therefore we dont order pop with our meals. Dont forget to add in for splurges, Mickey bars and popcorn.

Everyone has their own view concerning what a 'normal' budget is, but I thought I could help.
I got this info from a website, so hopefully you can use this as a guildline:

$34 per adult per day for food (includes 3 meals, snacks, & drinks.)

$19 per child per day for food (includes the same as adults.)

The above budget includes, breakfast & dinner at food courts or counter service places. Lunch is at a restaurant.

It depends on where you are staying. I stay off site usually at Residence Inn or Amerisuites. They both have real continental breakfast. Saves us big $$$$$$$$. First of all I stay in hotels that have refrig. and that also saves. We usually eat a cheap lunch somewhere or bring snacks for the parks. The only big meal we have is dinner. :bounce:

I budget about $30 per day per adult for counter service and food courts. We usually don't eat breakfast (snack stuff in our room) and we usually don't spend that much each day. If we want to eat somewhere a little more expensive I have it covered.

be sure to let the girls split meals...some of those kiddie meals are pretty big!

Again, it all depends. On our last trip in November, we averaged $18/person/day. It was myself, my wife and my 7 yo daughter. We ate breakfast in the room - cereal, poptarts, yogurt, etc. Lunch was usually counter service and we often shared meals. We only drink tap water and an occasional soda. Dinner was split between counter and casual sit-downs (like Beaches and Cream). Priceiest meal was Boma. We also brought snacks into the parks with us, though still bought some (gotta have Dole Whip).

Does Disney tap water taste ok? I'm a big water drinker and don't want to spend 3.00 a bottle several times a day.

There is an ongoing debate on this question. All of us (myself, wife, daughter, mother, mother-in-law, cousin, etc.) always drink the tap water with no complaints at all. We drink water everywhere we go. We freeze a water bottle overnite and refill it as needed throughout the day. I agree that buying bottled water is ridiculous, especially at Disney prices.

However, there are many who say they don't like the Disney tap water. The most common complaint I've read is that it has a sulfur taste - none of us notice it or are bothered by it. I've even read posts from a number of people who say they actually get ill when they drink the local water. I don't know how to explain that, and I'm a physician.

So if you are very sensitive, you will just have to give it a taste when you get there and decide then. If for some reason, you don't like the local water, there are plenty of places off-site to buy bottled water far cheaper than Disney charges.

Blech :P I don't like it one bit. DH will drink it if it's filtered through a Brita filter, but DS and I feel that it's still yucky. We stop at a grocery store on the way and pick up a case of Dasani or Poland Spring. (The Zephyr Hills doesn't taste much better than the WDW water IMHO) It's a lot cheaper than buying it by the bottle at WDW.

Steve--

Perhaps rather than the water "quality" it's just the overall change to the system? Just throwing an idea out.

We've not had any problems with Disney water (other than it being warm, not cold). Never have noticed a bad taste. Guess that means our city water is the same.
