We are flying to Disney on Tuesday :cool1: with 3 kids  LOL and will be in the air at lunch time. I want to avoid bringing a cooler on the plane because we have enough stuff to carry. What do you feed your kids for lunch that does not have be kept cool?

Thanks!!
Michelle

We'll be in the same boat next week, with 4 kids. My sister and I are pretty much planning on bringing PB&J sandwiches or cheese sandwiches (wrapped in foil, kept in fridge overnight) for the kids. My little one is a picky, picky, picky eater and won't eat much of anything, so I have a tiny insulated bag that I will pack yogurt tubes (they can be frozen overnight) and pudding. Also, will probably bring applesauce tubs (individual plastic ones) and maybe a few snacks to munch on. Can always bring a bagel if your kids eat that, too. Or, don't know if your kids eat Lunchables, but that might be an idea, too.

I would avoid peanut butter. If anyone on the plane has a peanut or nut allergy. You will not be allowed to bring those on.

Really.... peanut butter isn't allowed ?? How would they know if anyone was bringing on peanuts or peanut butter, anyway??

Just an informational thing....if someone is allergic to peanuts, they aren't necessarily allergic to nuts. Peanuts, believe it or not, are a legume (in the bean family), not a nut. Peanut allgergies and "nut" (tree nut, I believe it's called) allergies aren't the same....go figure!!

Don't they give out Peanuts on the plane? Do the lunchables have to go in the Fridge?

I don't know about the lunchables (my kids haven't ever tried any), but if they can go to school for kids to have for lunch, they aren't refrigerated for that period so I would assume there is a period of time that it's okay for them to not be.

I am bringing uncrustbles. Only certain airlines stop doing peanuts. We were given them on Southweat and Airtran recently. I am also bringing Fruits bar, juice boxes and teddy grahams. Lots of leapster games and portable dvd.

Lunchables will keep fine at room temp for several hours... we do it all the time for school. We always bring fresh fruit on the plane, bananas aren't too messy (if you bring a ziplock for the peel when you're done), also oranges if you peel and ziploc... and of course grapes and apples. :sunny:

Boy you can sure tell how long it's been since I've flown anywhere! We always used to get a meal served ... breakfast, lunch or dinner. I knew the airlines had cut costs, but geez!

They will tell you if anyone has a peanut allergy. And I actually have a friend who is allergic to both peanuts and nuts.

Almost anything that you would pack your kids for lunch at school could work on the plane. Uncrustables would be something thats easy and not messy or lunchables could work too. Another idea might be those tuna/cracker lunch kits. Assuming your kids like tuna. They dont need to be refrigerated and take up almost no room. My sister in law brings those into DL for her 3 boys on long days there. Depending on the type of eaters your children are will make your decision on what to bring them for lunch. My sweetpea is a real go with the flow eater and bringing her stuff like cheese and crakers, fruit snacks, granola bars or stuff like that will be fine for her to make it through lunch time.
