What do you bring to the parks?

MattNash-

I am wondering what the problem is with cell phones? I can understand if people are chatting on them during rides, etc., but if we use them instead of walkies to locate one another I can't see how that would be a problem. (The only way I have ever found to 'hear' my cell phone in DL or DW is to have it on vibrate and in my pocket). What am I missing?

If we are going at a really hot time of they year I get a couple of those little "magic" washcloths.. they come folded..really tiny.. I bring those and a couple of zip locks baggies... If you get hot you can put it under cold water to cool yourself down then put it in the baggie.

I have a small camera bag w/ digital camera, credit card, small amount of $, license/passes/roomkey, chapstick, water bottle holder, moleskin, and ibuprofen. On days for Animal kingdom I take a bigger bag and throw in some $1 ponchos for Kali River ride.

*saw on another thread..sorry to be a thread killer but thought someone may like it... If you drive to a park take a pic with your digital camera of the line you parked in so you don't have to remember it later..

Fanny pack

I found sun block attached to a clip and hooked it to the fanny pack
ID, some cash and disney cards and chap stick
My phone I had in a ziplock bag(didn't want to risk it on water rides) phone was in case we got separated.
disposable camera.
each day for my snack I got a water.

that was it in my bag..there was nothing extra anyone had to carry. I personally wouldn't want to lug a valuable camera around. Each day i traded out the disposable, so I always started with a new camera and if i lost it, i would only be out that days pics.
I saw people that looked like they were dragging their house with them and I always wondered why they needed all that garbage, and how unenjoable it must have made their trip..just ride logistics alone would stop me from carrying junk.

:moped: I use the basic WDW fanny pack whenever we do any type of theme park. All I bring with me is the cell phone, handsanitizer, tissues, tic-tacs, and chapstick. I gave up carrying a glass case, and use the back pocket of the pack in its place. As for the money thing I just bring my driver's license, my resort id, and maybe $20 in cash. (We charge almost everything to the room.)

I only worry about rain if it's a possibiliyt in the forecast. When we were there last October it didn't rain at all. The last January trip we had all of 4 hours of rain.

We definitely LOVE our fanny packs. We each carry one. They work a lot better for us than one back pack, which got in the way, had to be stowed, and made one of us uncomfortable.

DH & I carry: a disposable rain poncho, a small amount of cash, room key, a picture ID, tickets, dining reservation codes, a few band aids, camera, lip balm or lipstick, & a compartment to stow our sun-glasses after dark.

DS carries his own money, rain poncho, pen & autograph book, camera.

We also bring cell phones, all three of us carry one, but only so we can find each other when we inevitably split up. We have a rule that we don’t take any other calls – no matter what – we are on vacation! But having them has saved our vacation more than once. I totally agree that the people who take calls constantly are more than annoying – they’re rude!

I like to pack light (purse w/cc, passes, money), pda, lipstick, eyeglass case, small sunscreen and bottle carrier (DCL or EPCOT). All in a string backpack - weighs less than one pound.

I used a smaller fannypack.. In it i had my camcorder.. digital camera.. a few blank tapes and a few small things like gum or candy stuff like that... the one i have fit all that in perfect and was really never a problem when riding the rides..

Just wen tin Jan and I am happy to say I carried nothing on most days. I would rather buy water or use a fountain than to carry bottels around all day.

A few days I did carry a backpack. I have a small black one that we all take turns carrying. I bring a camera, cell phone and sun glasses. My kids are 577 and we were able to get away with little this past time. I do bring fruit snacks into the parks sometimes and granola bars. IN jan I did see a few people with coolers and was suprised, smaller playmate ones.

Tip to the parks we bring lots of fruit snacks, granola bars and for the hotel I buy the cereal bowls with the cereal in them. We have a restaurant supply store we go to and they are .35 each they are 1.50 at Disney. Those make quick and cheap breakfasts.

I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet. It's my new favorite bag!!!! :thumbsup2
I hate fanny packs, and on the advice of multiple DIS'ers bought a baggalini at ebags.com. I wasn't DIS enough to get lime green, I went with the boring basic khaki. this is a smallish 100% nylon backpack that weighs next to nothing, with several smaller compartments and one medium size. Anything bigger would have allowed me to carry too much crap and overload myself. it was a joy to carry, never felt heavy or cumbersome, and the weight was distributed nicely, no shoulder strain. the sling style was easy to get on/off, but I usually just swung the bag around without taking it off to access things.

I'm so tempted to order the baglini right now. I just have to give myself 48 hours to decide what color. Any color goes with my black and khaki wardrobe. :woohoo:

I am REALLY low maintenance (sp?)... I bring myself!

Actually last trip I tried the whole Camera, water bottles, and what not.... It wasn't a problem of getting on rides with a backpack (no problems on ANY ride) it was just that it got heavy and annoying.

We carry as little as possible. I have my tickets, cash, and room key cards around my neck, husband has the very small digital camera in his pocket, our ponchos (from walmart .88) in our back pockets, they are wrapped up small when unused. We hate standing in the baggage line, so we can just walk on in. When we go to a character meal, we usually send back the autograph books with our photos back to the hotel so we don't have to carry them. When we buy something, we either send it to the resort.

I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking "what's the difference if you're talking to your family/friends that are there with you or on your cell phone?". Maybe he means during a ride that is relatively quiet. :confused3

I use one of those under-the-clothes money belts to hold my ID, my room key/tickets and my credit cards/cash. I feel safest that way.

In my backpack, I put bottled water, purell, the guides, a brush, chapstick, sunblock, and wet wipes. I don't actually take the moleskin to the park, but do keep it in the room. Last time I also put a change of shoes so that I could switch out halfway through the day.

Definitely the cell phone. It helps me locate whoever I might be traveling with in the parks (if we are separated). But for two, I am traveling solo next time and would not feel comfortable without it. You wouldn't ever go the entire day at home without your cell phone - so I wouldn't do it here either! If someone at home absolutely needed me, I want to be able to check messages and get back to them if it was an emergency (ahem, or simply make someone jealous :rolleyes1 hee hee). It stays on vibrate so it doesn't interrupt during a ride.

ooh, you just had to post a link and tempt me! :teeth:

Can you tell me how big the biggest compartment is? What can I fit in it?

I usually bring our 4 Disney ponchos and put our cameras in; a video and digital camera. Just wondering what would actually fit in there.

Color for the bagalini thing? Lime green of course. :)

Cell phones? Put 'em on vibrate.. Nothing ruins a quiet moment in a ride like a cell phone "La Cucaracha" ringer.

I'm on the theme parks early morning.. take a few hours back at the hotel in the afternoon and then back for the evening program. Most times, I carry a small digital camera that fits in a pocket and someone in our party brings sunscreen.

As for the video camera, I usually set aside one evening to tape the one parade, show, whatever that I really want to record. And when I'm done, I put the camera in a locker and go ride some rides before the park closes.

First timer, going next week! We are a family of 3, with DD7, so we will carry everything we bring. I'm thinking a camera, cash, brush, lipstick, hand wipes, sunscreen, water. What else do I need and how do you carry it? Should I use a backpack and maybe put a fanny pack on DD?

We take, very little cash, resort ID, Brita water bottles, snacks, wipes (sometimes jackets)

I use a fanny pack and we take a small backpack with us, works out well.

I've done my 'disney necessities' in both small knapsack/backpack purse things and fanny packs. I admit, I prefer fanny packs, despite the silly factor (tho this time I think if I get a red fanny pack, at least it will match my crocs!).

What I usually put in the bag:

Water bottle
poncho
small wallet
sunnies
regular glasses & regular sunnies
contact case
gum
camera around my neck

What I'm taking this trip:

antibac wipes (after reading the horrible loo stories in the 'What shocks you' posts)
small sunscreen (spray or stick)
my meds (ain't insulin resistance fun :)
some headache tablets
NO MONEY....just my KTTK!!! :) (whohoo...looking forward to freeing up all that space!)
contact case
sunnies
regular glasses/sunnies (just in case I have a contact mishap)
digital around my neck
poncho

Hmm...now I just gotta get myself a commando fannypack!!

BTW...don't every tell Aussies you 'wear' a fanny pack...let's just say they will laugh their heads off due to a 'language' barrier. (PM if you want to know more *giggle*) The first time I told my Aussie fiancee I wanted to wear a fanny pack at Disney, he howled with laughter...till he cried!! :rotfl2:

When it's wintertime I wear cargo pants and use the pockets. I know that's a guy thing but this girl does it. Camera in one leg pocket, a few essentials in the other, pass, photopass, room key in lanyard and I'm good to go. When it's too warm for that route I have a small backpack/purse that I use but I'm going to try and eliminate that next time. I think if I just get an around the neck type camera strap I should be able to lose the backpack.
