Hi there!

I was thinking of getting a pair of the Sketcher Shape Up shoes, but they are expensive! I did find them on sale at DSW for 20% off of $99.99. I wanted to see what the helpful people of the disboards thought before purchasing Do you feel that they really help toning and increase better posture? I do have lower back pain and would love to tone-up a little. Tell me what your experience with shoes are.

Thanks for your input!!:)

I just got a pair of Champion Stride and Tone sneakers at Payless yesterday for $30. I haven't worn them yet, but I'm hoping to break them in for a few days before hitting WDW next month. I wanted to get the Reebok version, but couldn't justify paying $100 for them.

Hi,

I bought Avia version at Kohls back when I had a 30% coupon bc they were significantly cheaper than Sketchers and had my size. I really like them for walking.

I know Reebok also has a version.

Thanks! I will look into the brands listed above. Do you notice a difference in toning?

I think they're ugly popcorn:: :lmao:

DH works for a local shoe retail company (with the merchants/buyers) and he says that the shape-up fad is coming to a close.

I have them and while I don't know how well they tone (I have some muscle forming that didn't used to be there so I assume it is from those since I haven't done any type of exercise) they are extremely comfortable for me! And on their own I agree they aren't so pretty but with pants or jeans they are just fine and look like regular sneakers.

I just recently (last week) bought a pair at Kohls. On sale for $80 plus free shipping and 30% discount code, so I only paid $55. They seem pretty comfortable BUT it does feel like your walking UP hill all day so I guess that is where the toning comes in. They say to build up your time in them gradually.
I have a bad knee and low back pain and plantar fascitis in one foot and was hoping for any kind of pain relief/prevention. Not sure these will do the trick and they cost more than I usually pay for sneakers so not sure I'll wind up keeping them. Don't mind the way they look at all but they seem pretty warm. I got the metabolise version, I think the accelerate version may be cooler as it is more vented. 6pm had a big sale on them yesterday.

I agree with the pp above, those things are UGLY. I also read that they have no ability to tone up muscles, it is a marketing ploy, they are just a shoe and ugly shoe and that is it.

I bought a pair of the Mary Jane style. Although I don't think they really tone, they are very comfortable. I have had something wrong with my right leg for years where it is tight and numb . After wearing these shoes it no longer is. However, I found that my knees more after wearing them, so I think it really depends, like any shoe on the individual wearing them.

I bought a similar pair at Payless with a friend and got the BOGO! I really like mine! They are very comfortable!

I asked a physical therapist about these shoes. He said any shoe that doesn't let your foot bend isn't a good idea. He said "the jury" is still out on whether these shoes are good or harmful.

I bought a pair from Kohl's when they were on clearance with 30% off and so far I like them. I didn't buy them for toning, I bought them to help with my feet swelling. I had previously purchased the shape up flip flops and loved them. They both keep my feet from swelling so they are doing what I wanted them to do.

I broke my ankle 2 years ago and had to have surgery. My achillies tendon has been tight ever since and I have trouble with stairs and still limp occasionally. I bought a pair of danskin look a likes and it has made a big difference in my tendon, but I haven't really felt it much in my thighs and butt like they claim.

I had a pair of these, but stopped wearing them when I rolled my ankle in them more than once. It made me really sad, because they were expensive. I just didn't want the pain anymore.

I think they are ugly.

Oh wait, that wasn't what you meant . Sorry.

I have two pairs and love my Skecher Shape Ups. They help my back, knees and plantar fascitis. I don't think they are ugly at all. Kinda cute on my feet...like a cabbage patch doll :rotfl:

I have the Reebok easy-tones, and I have noticed a difference from wearing them. My leg muscles will feel tighter and I will feel more tired after wearing them all day as compared to regular sneakers. I liked the Reebok ones because they look more like regular sneakers. I also lost 3 lbs since buying them, and I think its got to be the sneakers because I haven't done any thing different, other then wear them around. I do usually walk at least 2 miles a day because I live in a urban neighborhood, so you might not get the same results if you just wear them around the office or to the grocery store, but I still think they are worth the money.

I have the pink and the black tone-up flip-flops that are sequined and are wonderfully flashy and can walk in them for miles/hours right off the bat!!! All my Old Navy flip-flips(15+colours) have sat in the shoe tree looking bored this summer!!:rotfl: I LOVE THEM and my feet are never tired or swollen anymore. I also have the black mary jane sketcher shape up tennis shoes and again i love them too. I have noticed a change in my legs so I tend to think they do help. :yay::yay:

I have the Mary Jane style and really like them. I got them because I have a bad back and the claims that the shoes would make my back stronger convinced me. Also, the Mary Jane style is suitable for my office job. I broke my toe about 10 weeks ago and still cannot wear closed toe shoes, so I haven't had them on in about 10 weeks, but when I was wearing them I did notice my back felt better and my calves were getting more defined. To be fair, though, I work out 3 times a week and do yoga one other day, so I can't say for sure if it's the Shape-Ups or the elliptical machine ;)

ETA: I tried them on at the Sketchers store because I heard they run small, but I got my regular size. I ordered through Zappos.com because they have free shipping and free returns. I saw them on sale at Rack Room Shoes over the weekend; I think $95.
