What do we want D23 to be?

The overall opnion about D23 is negative. I have read and heard many complaints about what D23 is, and most of the positive has been generally I joined to see what they will do.

To me that's like buying software that dosn't work but counting on a patch to fix it. (geek alert)

We all know that Disney trolls the boards and you can't send in sugggestions so I thought we could give them some reading material.

So let's not complain here.

What would D23 have to add to make you want to join?

A few things that I would want to make me open my wallet.

1. Boards that included sections for all aspects of the Disney company with Disney big wigs and Cast Members actively participating. The key is actively.

2. d23 chats with various Disney Decision makers

3. Special D23 events throughout the country. Maybe a special D23 only meal at the food and wine, Movie Sneak previews for D23 members and select theaters.

4. D23 versions of DVD and blue ray releases. With little extras for us

5. A rotating display from the Disney Archive here on the east coast.

6. Some extra magic hours for D23 members.

7. Discounts. Sure they'll be tossed at us when they need to boost attendance but toss away.

That's some of the things I think they have to add before I will drop money on D23.

I would like to see more exclusive content. So far, it seems that most things will be available to the public, whether or not they join D23. Paying the membership entitles you to the magazine, which is available at Barnes & Noble, so the only "perk" there is that it comes in the mail. Members also receive a certificate, membership card, and gift (lithograph), which are nice-to-haves, but nothing terribly exciting, in my opinion. D23 members get a small discount to the annual convention, but anyone can attend. The only "exclusive" for members seems to be the ability to purchase certain merchandise.

I would like to see the following:

- Members-only web content
- Members-only publication (whether it's the magazine or something else)
- Special members-only events, which could include theme park events (similar to passholder previews), movie pre-screenings throughout the country, and parts of the convention
- Members-only tours at the theme parks and/or studios, including items from the Disney Archives
- Member discounts, both at the theme parks (resorts, shops, restaurants, tickets, tours) and at your local Disney Store
- Ability to purchase exclusive artwork or replicas of items from the Disney archives, or perhaps the first chance at limited edition releases

I would also like to see some kind of theme park/resort loyalty program, whether it is part of D23, or a separate program.

Movie Sneak previews for D23 members and select theaters.

Ooh. That is a great idea!

Basically, being the "Official Fan Community" it should encompass all of Disney. Including the Parks, but not limited to the Parks.

I really think the best "perks" are exclusives. Events at the parks or through the country that ONLY D23 members could go. Like Exclusive Movie Screenings. Exclusive access to a party in the parks like the DIS Mousefest Toy Story Mania party. And yes, Exclusive merchandise.

Without being Exclusive, it is only a matter of Discounts. And if it is only a matter of discounts, then it becomes a math game of do I save money in the long run or not if I purchase. You lose the incentive or join.
