We are building a deck across the back of the house, probably starting next week (if the weather holds). I will probably start digging up the flower beds this week to transplant. What should we do with the grass? It's not such great grass that I would use it as sod to put elsewhere..... just wondering if I should just leave it to die or dig it up and put down maybe crushed stone where the deck will cover. I'd like to minimize the work and expense and leave the grass to die on its own, unless there is a good reason not to......Thanks for any advise..................P:confused:

Perhaps put a tarp over it to speed up the dying process?? Should be a cheap solution. I don't think it is necessary to buy crushed stones to put under the deck but that's just my humble opinion.

Good luck!

My husband had gone to Lowes and found a spray that kills both grass and weeds very fast. You could may try some of that. The grass started to die in days.

Since you're putting the deck over it I'd use the turf killer. I've had weeds and grass grow up through our deck and that seems to be the only way to keep it from coming back.

When we built our deck, I put black plastic down first, then the pebbles then deck above. I can't remember if we dug up the grass!:p
