DS10.5 was assigned by his teachers to write a cruise trip journal when we go to the countries next week on our cruise. Now what do you guys suggest he do? Visit the countries in EpCot? How do I make this educational?

The sell passports you can get signed by each country. There are also several exhibits that can be educational.

What she said. Do a report on the countries and some of the exhibits, and anything that could be educational. Living Seas, or anything like that.

Not only would Living Seas be educational for science, but so would the the Land pavilion, Wonders of Life Pavilion and other places like that in Epcot. Epcot would be a great place to get his educational reports done :)

Don't forget the tours inside some of the Pavillions. In particular the Behind the Seeds tour in The Land would be great to write a report on. It takes you into the labs and you also walk through parts of the Living with the Land boat ride farms. A Scientist will explain in more detail what goes on behind the scenes there.

Over at Innoventions there is the Monsanto booth (the one with the plants and bugs). Talk to the staff there also about genetically engineered plants which resist bugs and infections.

As for reports on Countries, you can always interview some of the CM's that work in Epcot. Most are more than willing to explain about their culture. In Morocco they run a tour and explain the artwork and culture of the Country. Canada, France, Norway and China have films.

You mentioned a cruise. Don't forget your stops on the cruise also. If you end up on an island or two a report on the culture there can also be added. The food, artwork, climate and lifestyle is very different than on the mainland. Many ships run tours of their own too. Your DS could tour the bridge and visit with the Captain and Crew &/or tour the kitchen and see what it takes to feed a ship full of people during a cruise.

Either do one on the epcot countries or he could do one a report that would be on the countries he would have been at. {{{HUGS}}}

When we took my 9 year old niece to WDW 3 years ago and she missed school, she did a daily journel and we also did the Epcot passport. I thought the Epcot passport was a nice personalized souvenier. You visit each country and a cm signs the book with a message from their country. At that time they were signing them at the Kidcot stations. You also paste stamps into the page for each country.

IGTD, I hope I'm not too late, I'm not sure when you leave for your trip!

I love all of the above ideas and I have one more...one of my friends would purchase postcards from every place they visited during their trip and she would write (her daughter was too young to write at the time) what they did there, what they learned, etc. At the end of the trip, she would punch a hole in the corner of each postcard and put a ring through it, and it made for a great, inexpensive souvenir, and also a journal.

Maybe you could use that idea and do something similar, but put a little more focus on the education? Perhaps a postcard from each country in EPCOT in addition to the passport, etc. You could have him learn something unique about each country and he could write about that.

You are going at the perfect time of year - Epcot has Storytellers round the World - each country has their version of Santa or some other folk character (if they don't celebrate Christmas). He could listen to some of the stories, write his journal on the different ways people around the world celebrate the holidays, and you could take pictures to illustrate his journal- works great if you have a digital camera.

My 3 daughters are missing a week of school Dec 13-19, and I ran this idea past their social studies teacher - he thought it was a great way to cover journal writing while they are gone, as their social studies class will be working on a group project while they are out.

Good luck finding fun ways to educate your children - My girls have always found something new and exciting - animals in AK, history at MGM - and Epcot is almost all educational!
