What do they do with the used FastPasses?

I was thinking about this on my last trip and was just reminded. Since there is a barcode, do they run them through some sort of system to see what your FP usage was at the end of the day? Or are they just recycled?

I was thinking they could find out a ton about obtaining them versus usage of them and patterns of movement through the parks.

Funny you should ask. On my last trip to DLR I decided to collect a full set of souvenir passes to keep on the assumption they would stop using paper fastpasses before my next trip. For a couple of the passes, most notably Frozen Fun at the Royal Theater and Goofy's Sky school (it was closed) I was unable to get them the traditional way so I went up to the cast members at those attractions, explained what I was doing and why and asked for an old used/expired fastpass. Short answer is, they seem to just trash them. However they don't generally have a trash can right next to the collection point so they collect them and then at the end of the day (or their shift) toss them out.

It would be cool to use them as the backing of a book case or shelving unit in a Disney theme room. I don't know how long the printing would hold up, maybe make color copies of them.

Recycled and only scanned if they suspect fraud or misuse. The bar codes are tied to the ticket it was retrieved with.

We always have a few we don't get around to using. I keep those for embellishments.

At WDW there are jewelry kiosks that sell earrings etc that are made from old park papers including FPs. The CMs there have dissected them and can tell you what papers are used by the colors. And dlr FPs are included.

Disney collects ten and sends them to a group of women in an African country to make the paper and shellac beads. It's pretty cool.

I have earrings made from Epcot maps, the CMs said.

If you ask the CM at the attraction if you can keep it for a scrapbook, they will often let you. Sometimes they will write "void" on it or put a small tear, and sometimes they will just say sure and you can keep a fully in tact fastpass for you scrapbook. Could this eventually lead to people using them multiple times, sure. But from the response I get when I ask, it seems like this isn't something that runs rampant.

Over the years, I've accumulated a number of unused fastpasses. My dad has an Indy one that is 7 years old that is his bookmark. After the last trip, I had a "this is not quite yet a fastpass cuz you are being too efficient with collecting them" one from Hyperspace Mountain (no way in hell in letting one of those precious FPs go unused! lol) l. I gave it to him and said "to replace Indy" lol

I think where the question came from though was that I pulled a fastpass to WOC almost everyday of my trip. But didn't make it on 3 of the nights because I didn't have the energy. And so I was curious if they tracked usage. Because it would be quite funny for instead of the "you're being too efficient" you got a "be realistic, are you really going to make it tonight?" Lol (I was hopeful!!)

I've asked cast members if I could have a fastpass from a special date to save, and they just pulled an expired one from the bottom of the pile and handed it to me. Once it's expired, you can't use it again.

I love the idea of making beads from old fastpasses! That's a great idea!!

I'll have to ask if they'll give me expired passes for my scrapbooks! We always use all our passes so there's never any to save

We have been collecting Fastpasses and turning them into refrigerator magnets. I glue them onto thick card stock, then cover it with a clear laminate sticker and glue a magnet on the back. I keep special dates like the 60th anniversary on July 17th or my birthday but lately I've been using them as Fish Extender gifts on the cruises.

If you just explain to the CMs why you want to keep them, they will let you keep the FP if it's close to the expiration time or they will go in the bin and dig out a expired pass so there is no chance of using it again.

I only started doing this when WDW went to FP+ and never got a full set of their paper FPs. I'm also bummed I missed out on getting an Aladdin musical FP before the show ended.

I LOVE this idea! I have some left over that I keep in a drawer, think now i'll make some magnets out of them too! We put magnets on the back of our park buttons for the fridge too
