What do they do for a hairline fracture of the tibia?

My dd9 fell on a wooden step Sunday night and has been walking on it and running some, but says it hurts. So I took her to urgent care today and they see a tiny line or shadow that they think is a very small fracture. No radiologist looked at it, just the doctor there. We go to an orthopedic dr. tomorrow.

What would they do for this? She is not limping or anything. I broke my foot last year and had a cast for 8 weeks and surgery, so I'm very nervous about this. So, if you have any experience, I would like to hear about it.

My mom did this before Christmas when she fell down the stairs. They are just letting it heal on her own. She did need a walker for a couple of weeks, but that was more because her knee was messed up too.

I tripped in a hole and popped my ankle. Turned out to have hairline fractures in both the tibia and fibula, right at the ankle. They put me in a non-weightbearing cast for 8 weeks.

Stress fractures in children are different than adults. Growth plates must be watched. Could also be shin splints. Wait and see what your Ortho has to say. Treatment is varied based on what they find.

Hope its an easy heal and recovery.

Good news- the Ortho Dr. did not see a fracture, just a bruise and soft tissue damage. They wrapped her leg in an ace bandage and will see it next week. If it gets worse, they will x ray again, but I'm hopeful it will be OK. She seems to be getting around fine.
