What do people like reading in a pre-trip report? I've never done one!

Hi there

I've just read some pre-trip reports, and they all seem quite different so I was wondering if there are any guidelines as to what makes a good one, what is easier/harder for people to read etc. Do most people use their trip report to 'set the scene' for their main trip report, or as an online planner?

Thanks in advance
Rachel

no, you just wright your own and put what ever you wish, share everything you want. Maybe it's so interesting because PTRs are so different just like TRs :lovestruc

I'm going to move this thread over to the main board as I think more people will see it there and can then add their contributions. :)

I agree with Isila that it's good to have different styles so you write as little or as much as you wish ::yes:: some people like to write theirs as a daily/weekly journal, others write a basic introduction, and some (meaning moi ;) ) always mean to write one but never get round to it! :rotfl:

My PRE TR is more for my own enjoyment lol I love being able to write my ideas down and share my excitement with every one!

I love Also I love TRs because I feel they really help with planning up coming trips for example on our last trip it was my 13th DLP trip but had never done it with a small child/baby that I remember. I didn't know what we would be able to do with DD. my trips had always been riding the big rides out late never really bothered with EMH. I was worried about feeding changing and napping but reading people's TRs that had done it before really helped! X

The way I see it, PTR is a good tool for putting down in writing your whole vacation planning.

Once you complete your PTR, you need to be able to see if everything falls into place.
You answer 4 main questions :
Who ?
Where ?
When ?
What ?

those are the same questions that make up for coherence in a book or movie.

Your PTR may also be a good way to get other DISers' opinion on your plans, because sometimes, someone will see that something is off, like you allowed too little time for something. Or they might have a useful tip. Or YOU may give useful tips to readers.

What people like to read is not just how wonderful your trip will be. It's about how happy, how enthusiastic you are.
What they like to read in your PTR is what we all try to find at Disney's, it's magic and pixie dust.
If you can mix that in your PTR you'll make your reader's day

I think people just like to share the excitement and build up of a trip to Disney.

To be honest it's years since I did one, on a Florida holiday.

Thank you for all the replies, I'm glad I was in the ball park with what I thought. I'm super excited to write one but hope I don't get carried away with my rambling and plans....!!

Rambling Pre TRs are the best kind ;)

do it the way you want to - its for you after all :goodvibes.
I only did a PTR once (because it was a surprise trip and I needed to share with someone otherwise I'd burst :lmao:), although I always do a TR after we've been to DLP.

I love reading everyone's tr's. It's a fantastic way of finding out new things, working out plans around the park and restaurant ideas. You find out so much from tr's that you might miss from the main board.

I also love writing mine - usually very quickly after we return, and then reading it a few months later. When I feel a bit down, I sit down with a cup of tea and spend the evening re-reading my own tr's and everyone elses - it's a lovely way to remember your own trip and pick up tips from others.

I also like reading tr's from the same people and seeing their routines, families grow up and share their experience. Cheers me up every time :thumbsup2

Also - I love all the pictures :) Another great way of experiencing all the new stuff and gives you something to look forward to for your own trip.

Bring on the trip reports :lmao:
