What do people do that don't have insurance?

I agree with SteveH...you DON'T want to know what chemo and all the bloodwork and meds and everything that it costs and then there's radiation. I know because I saw my mom's bills.

There was a time in my life after I was laid off that I couldn't afford Cobra and I couldn't rely on my husband working long enough to be able to make the Cobra payments. We went without insurance for almost a year and I my daughter was pretty sick during that time. I prayed very hard that she would not end up in the hospital and if she did that they would let us make payments. There's only so much you can do. We weren't eligible for any other insurance because I had been sick with pneumonia many times they considered that a preexisting situation even though I hadn't been sick in 2 years. They also considered my dd having a preexisting situation and my husband at the time had epilepsy so, you got it, preexisting condition. Really sucked!

My mom lost her job and paid Cobra for one person at $200 a month on top of what her insurance didn't cover for chemo - it ranged anywhere from $18,000 to $26,000 a month - yes a month! Then she got a job, couldn't carry that insurance because of, you got it, preexisting condition so she had to continue to carry the Cobra. Thanks to many loving people there were many months someone paid her insurance anonymously for her.

My exhysband is supposed to cover Caitlyn's medical costs and provide health insurance. Well, as you can guess this doesn't happen. I am happy to pay an extra $150 a month for Caitlyn to have excellent benefits.

I was talking to my ex last night about the cost of insurance and he informed me that medical insurance is nothing more than a luxury. Caitlyn has severe allergies, asthma, and constantly has ear infections.... I can't imagine the cost of treatment without insurance.

It's sad. My Grandma is on Medicare, my sister on Medicaid and my mom on private insurance.
My mom was the ONLY one this one pratice would see. They told my sister and Gram they were "not taking new patients".

I'm just thankfull I live in Canada with free medical care. I don't have to pay a cent for medical inurance!!!:p
