I am taking my Dniece to Disney World in September. She will be 16 months old and I'm getting a bag custom made to pack all of her/our park touring essentials.

What are your "must haves" when you go into the park with your toddler?

Besides your typical diapers, wipes, bottled water - bring extra clothes in case of an accident, straw and plastic utensils - sometimes these are always availabe and for a toddler you may want to cut up a food that an adult wouldn't (apple for example).

Agree with those, I don't do utensils though since you can get them in the park but its probably nice to have them at hand too. I also pack: sunscreen for frequent reapplications, hand sanitizer, snacks, a sweater or light jacket if going at night (or sometimes indoor attractions can get quite chilly), possibly a small toy to distract while standing in line.

Great tips. Thanks so much for the input.

I would never have thought of half those things (straws, utensils, sunscreen, sweater). My daughter is 16 years and we didn't go to DW with her until she was 4 - no stroller or anything, but I won't have that luxury with a 16-month old.

I'm compiling a list of all the necessities so that I can tell my friend how many compartments I will need in my backpack.

Here's my list. Some items repeated from above:

Diaper changing pack in it's own container (maybe your friend can make a nice little portable bag for this stuff) containing changing pad, 4 diapers, small pack of wipes, and diaper cream.

Sunscreen
Hand Sanitizer
Tylenol
Sippy cup
Snacks/drinks
Couple of Small toys
change of clothes
sweatshirt
small blanket for covering up napping baby in stroller or in case it gets cold
hat
Sunglasses if baby will wear them
something for my lips
Aspirin/pepto etc for me just in case
I leave all of this in the stroller and then I carry a small purse with me that has my credit card, ID, money, sunglasses, camera and a couple of snacks.

I think that's about all we take in with us! If you could have her make a couple of small separate bags that would be so helpful (one for snacks, one for diapers, and one for medicines!

What a perfect idea!!!

I'm definitely doing this. It will be so much easier to just grab the diaper changing bag when I dash off with her into the restroom for a diaper change.

Thanks so much!

Diaper changing "kits" (as I call them) are readily available in stores all over the place: they are a folding changing pad with side pockets for wipes and a few diapers, and they fold up with velcro into a pack about 10" x 6", maybe 2" thick, with a wrist strap. Target has some really cute ones from Skip-Hop if you like patterns. (Mine is plain -- DH prefers the discreet black).

My parks bag contains the diaper kit, a spare outfit (incl. undies) for the baby, a couple of small toys for her, her "dining kit", that consists of disposable table toppers, disposable bibs, a sippy, and a extra wipes in a ziploc, plus our hats and sunglasses, a small misting fan, and sunscreen (a can AND a wax face stick.) Also my wallet and an emergency ziploc of cheerios. Park passes are around my neck on a lanyard.

PS: Also a solarveil sling for use while standing in ride lines.

MISTY FAN!!!! This is the best invention ever for traveling in the parks with little ones, they usually carry them at walmart closer to summer.

One thing to remember about a bag with a lot of compartments is that you have to open them ALL when you go thru security and depending on which security guard you get, sometimes need to be emptied. Nothing like spending an hour organizing your bag to have it all dumped on the security table and then being rushed thru! I now just put things by category (snacks, first aid, etc.) in ziploc bags in a backpack and slide them in.
