What do I need to request?

Hi, I have looked through the FAQ, but still have a question. My mom had hip replacement about a year ago. She doesn't really need a handicap room and is hoping to even walk instead of using an ECV this year (we'll see). Her only problem is getting up from a low seat without something to hold on to, so the toilet presents a problem. Last year we brought her walker, but am hoping to avoid that this year, as we are going to be very short on space. I noticed we can request a portable toilet. Does anyone know if this is the kind that you can remove the bucket and place it over the regular toilet so that it raises the seat and has rails. This is what she uses at home and that would be perfect. If not, what are our other options? We are going in Nov and staying at ASMo.

Thank you for any help you can give,
Karen

They have portable commodes (which is what you have described). Those all have removable buckets since that’s how you empty it.
If the room has a regular toilet, it should fit over. If the room has a raised seat toilet, then the seat part should fit over, but it depends on how the bucket attaches. There may be a rail underneath that hits the toilet. Worst case scenario would be that she would have to use the bucket.

I would suggest you call Special Reservations Line: (407) 939-7807 to ask.

You can also rent elevated toilet seats from Care Medical here.
