Grandpa has decided to treat the grandkids to a day at Blizzard Beach. There will be a total of 15 of us, 5 of of the 15 are 11 years old and younger. None of us have ever been. We know we will take a cooler with snacks and drinks and we have heard we need to get there early. Any other advice?

It's a great, fun place!

Yes, get their early so you can get an "area" where all of you can sit together.

Plan to walk up a lot of hills to get to the slides. You can take the ski lift up, but the lines get VERY long for this as the day goes on. I find I'm doing a lot of uphill walking there.

It is neither a blizzard nor a beach and pedophiles LOVE the place. Especially the wave pool.

That is all I know about the place though as I've never been there.

Enjoy. :thumbsup2

I guess my comment would be that you shouldn't expect it to be that much better than a regular water park. It has its touches, but it's not like the parks or even the mini-golf where the Disney difference really stands out above the competition. Other than that, I don't think there's any planning beyond what you've already done.

Bring towels.

We were shocked to find out they don't supply towels. We are not water park people but I had no idea you were supposed to bring your own. (My logic was that the pools at both the Grand and the Poly supplied towels...)

With the size of your group...you'll need several.

We had items stolen from our bag once. Turns out we weren't the only people that day. Security told us several families had stuff stolen that day.

Wear sunscreen and lots of it. There's a lot of stuff painted white (to look like melting snow....) and I got a wicked sunburn there.

If it is raining and you are in your swimsuit-you probably don't need a rain poncho :rolleyes1

We've been going for years and LOVE it. The very first thing you HAVE to do is go right to the family raft ride, Teamboat Springs!! It's a total blast, you'll laugh your head off the whole way down:rotfl:. The lines get long here, so head there first thing and you'll be set:thumbsup2. Yes, cover every inch of everybody with sunscreen, also wear water shoes, the pavement gets pretty hot.

Have a blast!!! You're going to love it.

 That's real nice.

It was just a joke. Ok, the pedophile thing was real. If you listen to the podcast you would hear that they have quite the pedo problem there and it is mostly in the wave pool.

Don't shoot the messenger.

One word: SUNSCREEN! You'll look like a lobster coming out of there!!

Also, get there early to get a "good" spot, bring lots of water and some snacks.

The most important thing though is sunscreen.

Wear some kind of water shoe. My Mom burned the bottoms of her feet so badly she couldn't walk for the rest of the trip. Pavement being hot is an understatement.
They have since installed little "sprayers" on the particularly hot spots so I am guessing my Mom wasn't the only one.

One of the reasons I prefer Typhoon Lagoon (even though I really like BB).

I agree. And reapply much more frequently than usual. With spf 50 and water proof on and I didn't get get in the water much and I still got the worst sunburn of my life. I was crispy for weeks and have a scar. The light really reflects off the white structures.

Thanks for all the replies. We're packed and are leaving this afternoon.

When you pack your cooler, be sure nothing is in glass bottles or jars - like mayo, pickles, etc. No glass allowed anywhere.

I would also wear a 1 piece swim suit, 2 pieces can come undone quite easily on the faster slides (my friend found that out the embarassing way!!)

EXACTLY what I was going to say...and hats!

With that many people going, the Tobogan races would be a blast! Since you are going today, my main comment won't really apply, but if you go during June when the {ahem} tourist groups are there, you will get broken in line, stompled, bumped, and shouted over with that just being in line for the slides. Then you would have to deal with explaining to the younger ones why those particularly revealing bathings suites are being worn in a Disney water park.

It's a great water park and lots of fun, but sometimes, others can make a mess of a great day!
