We are getting ready to cruise (Jan 5th). It will be my mom and dad, me and my 7 year old niece. What documentation do we need to take my niece? What kind of letter from her mother/what does it need to say?

For starters I think you need a notorized document stating that you have permission to take the child out of the country and authorizing you to administer and approve any medical care that may be required in addition to her birth certificate or passport for id.

BUT, I would give DCL a call and verify what you need so that you're sure. Better to have too much documentation than too little and some surprises you really DON'T want to have.

We took my nephew in Sept. All we needed was his birth certificate and a form that DCL provides in the cruise docs for minors traveling with their parents. You need to have the child's parents sign the document and have it NOTARIZED. This gives you permission to be guardian while on-board/out of the country.

You may want to have them write a piece of paper that gives you permission to obtain medical care if something happens before you board the boat or on the way home. (you never know with kids. Better to have too much than not enough.)

Have a great trip.
