What do I do with my points?

I am in need of a little help. I am a very novice DVC'er. I have points that were banked that need to be used by Jan 31. Hurricane Isaac did a number on us and we can't go this year. As I understand it, I can't transfer these points. Is this correct? So what do I do with these points? Are they wasted at this point? Any help is appreciated. Like I said, I'm very new to this. If this isn't the proper forum, my apologies in advance and please move to the proper forum.

Why couldn't you transfer them, are they in holding? Could you rent them? You could make a reservation for someone else. I also have 37 points that need to be used by Jan 31. For instance your 59 points combined with someone else's random points could get a week's stay at SSR in a studio.

I think I read that you can't transfer points that have been banked. They have to be used. I created a thread in the rent/trade section but it appears to have to go through moderation first. I basically asked for an honest person to help walk me through this process since I have don't have experience doing this. I assume if someone decides they want to take my offer, I make a reservation for them and they pay me. Sound plausible?

Read through all of the stickies at the top of the rent/trade forum. I understand that it is a moderated forum and iris possible that you do not have enough of a posting history to post a "points for rent" post there. There are ways around it, but read the stickies.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards App, please excuse any typos.

Oh and yes you are correct banked points may not be transferred. It may be easier for you to make a reservation for someone you know that may want a short Disney trip; friends, family, coworkers, etc.

Not enough posting history? Man I hope not. I have some hurricane damage I really need to pay for.

Here are some options for you to investigate/consider:

1. Rent the points (or give them to a friend or family member) by making a reservation for someone else. If you choose to make the offer on the DIS Rent/Trade Forum, be sure to read all of the Sticky Threads at the top of the forum before you post. If you do not meet the requirements to offer your points for rent on the DIS, you can opt to pay a small fee in lieu of meeting the requirements.

2. Check into the Concierge Collection to see if there is something relatively close to home that could work for you. Perhaps a long weekend or a Saturday night at an upscale resort might work for you. NOTE that you must make the reservation before the end of September to use those points for this option. You cannot make a reservation during the last four months of your use year that is for a stay that will occur during those last 4 months. That's known as the 4-month Rule.

3. Check into the World Passport Collection (RCI exchanges). Lots of info in the DVC Planner and on the member website for these. There are nightly exchanges available as well as the more traditional week exchanges. You would probably need to add some points to do a week exchange. Don't wait too long if this option appeals. While it is possible to make a late deposit, there are some match restrictions when you do so. MS can also help you with this option.

Good luck!

Yes, this sounds plausible. I don't have any experience renting my points either but I have rented a confirmed reservation from someone else. It worked out really well for us. It was a 4 night in a studio at SSR (56 points). At the time we rented the reservation there was absolutely no availability anywhere but after we arrived we were able to add 2 nights with our own points.

You can contact a rental broker like David's Disney Vacation Club Rentals and they will rent your points for you. I believe they will give you $10 per point.

Good Luck!!

Ok, so after reading the sticky, even though I've been registered since 2007, I haven't posted in quite some time so I don't meet the requirements. Hopefully a mod can review the circumstances behind this. Hopefully

I don't know if the Mods will make an exception or not. I've been a member since 2004 and without the required posting history, I had to pay the fee.

Demand is pretty high at the moment, you should be able to rent your points for $10-11 a point without any trouble. To protect yourself the best you can, I strongly advise using a rental contract. There have been several posted previously that you can use.

Good luck.

In your situation the easiest might be to contact David's Vacatin Club rentals and see if you would like to work with them to get your points rented.

I think this could be the best solution, too! I've not dealt with the company, but I have a friend who rented points for her family's vacation from him, and all positive remarks from her about his service!

Even though Dh and I have many points of our own, we had a situation where we needed to rent and we used David's Rental. I would not hesitate to use them again.

I agree with this. I rented some extra points through David and it went very smoothly. I would contact him.

I would say go with Davids Point Rental...I recently rented out my 100 points through them that were borrowed and going to expire at the end of this month...very easy transaction...good luck

Dave will get you $10.00 per point our you can rent yourself for same. We have rented since 2004 and have had 100% good reservations history with our guest. We just rented 1,400 points in 2 weeks and have 100% of the fees for the points.
