YOu know hurricane globes that hold a taper (I think)? I've just gotten my Christmas stuff down-most of it I haven't seen in 7 yrs ( last house was too small) & these globes are part of it.

I want to put them out somewhere but need some ideas how to use them...my table is a bit small for them (oh yea there's 3)....they are SO BORING right now....

I've got two that I put in the middle of my table surrounded by greenery and bows - leftover stuff that falls off all the other decorations! Makes it looks more interesting, more like a "centerpiece."

:)

I have 2 bigger ones and a glass base for each and they sit on the fireplace hearth. The base can hold a taper or (flip it over) a pillar candle. You can put greens or picks around the outside of the base for additional color or decoration. I have to wash mine frequently...they get a little smoky from blowing the candles out. I like them because they make the glow of the candles magified.

I posted this on the wedding centerpiece thread but I also have it in my living room.
Take dried lavender and put in the hurricane. I get mine from my plant and also from illuminations. put a taper candle holder inside (the cylinder - not just a stand) and put an unscented or vanilla candle inside of the holder. So you'll have a candle inside of a candle holder on top of lavender inside of a hurricane.

It smells so good, especially when the candle is burning. The lavender is very calming smelling.

If your somewhat crafty, you can make a beautiful centerpiece out of it. You can buy a circular styrofoam wreath from the craft store, get ribbon and wrap it around the wreath, then buy plain glass balls (same color as the ribbon) , they have them 20 for 1.88 at walmart, and hot glue them around the wreath. ( I made a 10 inch wreath, and needed about 3 boxes of balls) I used the gold balls, and also bought the really really small gold balls to fill in empty spaces. Then you place the hurricane lamp in the middle. It really looks rich and beautiful and its not too difficult to do.

sounds pretty...can you post a picture?

You can buy a pack of mini ball ornaments - I like red, gold and silver - and fill the hurricane with the balls. It really looks festive, and it's inexpensive. I've done this with my vases before.

i have a hurricane glass vase that came with a big green candle. I filled it halfway with water then added fresh cranberries that float on the top. Greens around the base add the finishing touch. Very pretty. :teeth:

Here's a pic, as you can see I'm not finished yet. Hoping to get some free time in the next couple of days so I can finish it!!!

For Christmas, wrap them with double sided tape and affix candy canes all around the lamp. Fill with flowers or a tall candle!
