What do I do after my half?

I have been on various training programs ever since I started running almost a year ago. I would like to stay on some kind of training program after my half this month, despite the only thing I have on my calendar right now is a 10K in July and Donald in January.

I feel like if I have a program I am more inclined to stay on track. I would like to stay somewhat where I am now. I would like to be able to easily run a 10K race on a short notice and be only a month or so away from being able to say - Hey, I'll sign up for that half.

Is there any kind of maintenance program or book out there for this or do I have to kinda make it up as I go along?

Thanks!

Shan, I am sure you are going to get lots of advice on this one. After the WDW half, I was expecting that I would want a week off but after 3 days, I felt like running again. I worked my way slowly back to the MFM plan I had been on, about halfway through, maintaining about 5 mile LR on Saturdays. I figure, that way, a 10K is doable, like you said, on a moment's notice. A 5K is just a piece of cake (not really, I have a harder time with short distance now) and I am about halfway through the 18 week half marathon plan.

I hope you get some great answers here. I have a half 4/6 and I don't plan to take any time off afterward this time. Okay, maybe only 2-3 mile runs for awhile but I think my knees and I will be speaking more after this one!!

Our plan used to eb to reverse taper adn tehn do weekday runs of 30 to 40 min (twice a week) and LRs of 5 to 7 miles after fulls. However, we've learned tjat iif we don't have a race, we just don't do it. Hopefully, you're more disciplined than us. ;)

My goal was to keep myself in Half shape at all times. To make sure I am, I just throw an 8 or 10 miler in at least every two weeks. (I said half shape, not fast half shape). Anyway, that works for me. Also, I always try to have a race that I am signed up for in advance. That keeps me motivated.

I just did a half this weekend so pretty much since the marathon I was up early on Saturdays doing long runs (gotta beat the heat). I will take the next few Saturday mornings off then like you said, try too keep in half shape.

Cruise this weekend then a 5K the following then... nothing planned.
enjoy,
Duane.
