There is a good possibility we'll be able to go to WDW in Sept. Depends on a couple of things but they are likely to happen. Anyway...Dh is VERY strong willed. He thinks he knows exactly how to do things. He wants to stay off site, thinks he can get 6 day tickets for 1/2 price etc. I've been to WDW 4 times in the last 3 years. I know what I'm doing. I refuse to stay off site. How do I get him to back off so I can do the planning? How do I make him understand I've done all the research in the past 3 years and I know exactly where to go for the best deals? He's making me crazy already and we have 11 mo to go!! HELP!!!!

Let him know you mean business, Tammy, LOL. :cool1:

Half price tickets??? :scratchin Where??

LOL good question Dan! If he can find 1/2 price 6 day park hoppers he can plan the whole thing!!!

Why are you against off-site?
I have done both-I like off site-I know it's an opinion and everyone has one.
We are 6 total and love using Hotel Kingdom.com we have 3- bedrooms 3-
bathrooms 3-tvs. Full kitchen ( which we don't use, but I like to have) and
washer and dryer in the room ( makes for less packing ). We are 1 mile from
the park and if we really wanted the free parking could go to Downtown Disney and hop the bus. The 1/2 ticket thing-well we are not into time-share
stuff but you know you acn get some deals.

I have to agree with you on this one. I do not know why anyone would stay on site these days especially in light of the fantastic deals and wonderful accomodations that are available. Staying off site will make full price tickets seem like free by the time you factor in what you will save. I was one of those people who would NEVER stay off site. Now I will never stay on site when I see what is available outside of WDW. I am NOT talking about a Quality INN or some other disgusting motel. But Muffy has it right when you see how much better your stay is you will wonder why you ever doubted him. Gotta go with your DH on this one.

last year we paid 125.00 per night

OH and that is on the high end of the price range. When you use places like Skyauction, or Hotel Kingdom you can get these places for much less! It cost us 89.00 for a two bedroom fully loaded condo at Sheraton Vistana this summer. We stayed 14 days with ALL the comforts of home plus 7 pools.

less myself in the past but we booked a tad late-last year was 89.00 per night
Don'y you love the more than one bathroom thing

Muffy,

I love the whole everything!! When I think of what we paid in the All Stars and what we get at Vistana, Vistana Village, Grande Vista...well I kick myself that I ever was duped by the whole stay on property thing. Disney does not want to share its guests(ie walking pocketbooks and wallets) with anyone so they will try to keep us on site as much as possible. If more people tried off-site Disney would feel the pinch and stop trying to make you think a couple of bars of soap and a roll of toilet paper with Mickey on it is a big deal. Then again if more people were on to the off site thing it would be harder for us to get the great deals.

Where have you stayed.

Vistana, Grand Cypress Villas, Cypress Point Villas, and two others I don't
remember the names one was by crossroads other was by what is now
Nick Jr. Suites
The reason I was soured by Disney on-site was on my honeymoon
8yrs ago this month we booked The Wilderness Lodge the story is
just tooo tooo long, but was a nightmare. We used to stay at the
Mariotte ( sp) Resident's Inn -closed now for 6yrs every year-got to
know the staff. After one night at the Fort Wilderness Lodge and alot
of tears. I called the Resident's Inn they looked at my file-welcomed
me and I'm not kidding with open arms and sent to our condo type
rm and huge fruit basket with two bottles of wine-at Disney 1 sm
bottle of champagne with photocopied note. Will never do it again.

Send him over here to us! The DIS folks will straighten him out! :teeth:

I'd make a deal with him.. give him 30 days to find & buy the 1/2 price 6 day hoppers... if he successfully completes the task he can plan the rest.. otherwise you plan the whole thing. DH knows better than to attempt to plan a Disney trip, he knows when it comes to WDW I know best!!

BTW, staying offsite isn't all bad! We've done both...and plan to rent a house or condo for our next trip!

I enjoy staying offsite too IF we have a car. You can get a wonderful home complete with a pool or stay in a townhouse with full amenities for the same price of a small room at WDW. Compromise and split between onsite and offsite.

If you hear anything about these half-price tickets though, please let us know! ;)

If you have been several times recently and your DH hasn't why not let him have the holiday he wants or compromise.

If you have a car - staying offsite is not that bad! Especially if you can get a condo or house.

We stayed this past spring at the Vistana resort - it took NO TIME at all to get to the parks. We had two bedrooms, a luxury master bath with a HUGE tub and seperate double shower, a seperate bath (regular size) for the kids, a screened porch and full kitchen. Ours was a gift from my sister in law - but I saw a couple days ago someone got a WEEK for under 300.00 for the same size room on SkyAuction. You just can't beat that if you're trying to save money.

I understand the magic of staying onsite - it IS beautiful - but the REAL magic to me is spending time with my family .. so I guess to me it doesn't matter where we stay!

Good luck - and if you ever find out exactly where he's getting tickets for 1/2 price let us know... :teeth:

Maybe I'm too picky, but I stayed at the Vistana before (it was free--my FIL used to have timeshare there). I hated it. The mattresses in the "double room" were the worst. They didn't even use fitted sheets on their beds and every night the sheets came off and we were laying on mattresses. My kids still remember the bad beds and they are kids who really don't care. My parents used the master suite. Their bed was okay but something in the room was "flooding" and their carpet was wet all week. I could never even get anyone to come look at it, couldn't get the room changed. Nothing.

Other than that, the room sure looked good. But, I just didn't think it was all that great.

I just really wanted to jump in and say I hate off site too!

I can't explain it other to say it really distroys the magic for me. I don't want to rent a car and pay for parking, I don't want to cook for my family, I don't want to do laundry so none of those things matter or appeal to me. I don't want to 'save money' by eating at the same restaurants that you can find anywhere in America.

The magic I feel staying on property far out weighs any cost savings I get from staying off site.

Rant over!

As for your DH, let him plan all he wants, just make sure you have a back up and when his grand plans don't work out use yours. Is your DH a talker? My inlaws are. They have all these grand plans of what they are going to do and how they are doing it and it always falls through. Nod, smile and keep checking mousesavers.

Just be sure he doesn't buy the tickets on EBay. They might be 1/2 price, but they also might not work when you get there!

I'd go the compromise route, too.

If I'm making the arrangements, it would be on-site all the way, and preferably a hotel that is within walking distance of one or more of the parks (Contemporary, Boardwalk and so on). I just love the idea of waking up early for a morning coffee and strolling - at my own pace - to the park in time for the rope drop, and then taking a break during the day to enjoy the pool.

That said, why not split the vacation, half on-site (you do the arrangements) and half off-site (know-it-all does all the arrangements)? While on-site, you can focus on the parks, and when at the off-site hotel, you can do other things (er - are there any other things to do in the Orlando area besides Mickey?)
