DD was invited to a birthday this weekend for a 7 year old boy. I know nothing about what boys like. Well, boys that age anyway. :rolleyes1 I'm pretty much only experienced with girls, but I don't think getting him a My Little Pony is going to cut it. Is he too young for gift cards? I got dbf's nephew a gift card for his bday, but he's 11 so that's a big difference. I know this kid has a Gameboy, but I have no idea what games he already has, so I'd rather not go that route.

Help.

With the new "Turtle" movie TMNT coming out soon, that is sure to be a hot item again with the boys.

Some turtle stuff would probably be cool.

Gift cards are always good. My 7 year old loves bioncles, pokemans, and knex toys. Also summer toys would be good.

My 7 y/o boy is all about Star Wars.

My son just turned 10 but he has pretty much loved Legos, Bionacles, and transformers for years.

Do you know the child's parents? If so, give them a call and ask. Kids' interests are all over the spectrum and I like to give them something they can use and enjoy.

Wow, great ideas! Thanks, everyone! I hadn't even thought of any of this stuff lol.

My sons really liked recieving giftcards for their recent birthdays. Target and Walmart are safe ones.

I know the mom pretty well, so I was going to call her and ask anyway, but I wanted some broad ideas so I can ask "does he like such-and-such?" and go with that. Thanks! :)

My 7 year old son loves the cartoons 'BEN 10' and 'AVATAR'. There is lots of merchandise available. Having said that, you can't go wrong with a gift card.

Age 7 is pretty easy it is when they get higher look out.

But it is a good idea to call and ask. We just went to one and the boy was into Pirates. So Lego as a lot of that stuff. He liked dragons too. He even liked doing crafts.

My ds (turning 7 end of June) loves to get gift cards to Toys R Us. That way he gets to pick out something that he really wants and isn't a duplicate. I agree though girls are sooooo much easier to buy for!

I have an lmost 7 year old boy (in 2 weeks!)...he loves all the above mentioned. Also Webkinz. But I always like when the kids get gift cards, especially movie theatre ones. Or you could get a Gamestop gift card for video game stuff...

I can tell you that it's not 7 year old girls.:rotfl: My son is 8 and he's been into Legos, Star Wars, Spider Man, Transformers.

Another one for gift cards. Target, Barnes & Noble, a certificate to the movies or to the video store to rent video games.

My DS (7) likes Legos, board games, Webkinz, Gameboy, books.:)

Agree with Star Wars, and Legos stuff.

You can never go wrong with Nerf- especially the guns every age male I have ever met has played with this stuff.

If you get a gift card IMO go with Walmart or Target much more variety from toys to video games to sports stuff and reasonable prices. Our Toys R us never has a good variety of stuff and their prices are usually higher. I always figure if they get a Target or Walmart card and there is something else somewhere they really wanted Mom can buy the gift card off them and give them the cash- who can't use a Target or Walmart card.

My DS7 was thrilled to get a McDonald's GC (especially since his mean mommy rarely takes him ;) ).

Is it too early to consider a pair of swim trunks & a beach towel? Or a water toy like those Super Soakers?

My DS (7) loves Star Wars!

At his birthday in Dec. he did get gift cards which he loved!

I have 2 boys, 4 and 9. I would ask the parent or get an idea if the invitation had a theme. My 9 hates Legos and such and we always wind up returning them. Yet give him anythng from our local sports teams(tshirts beach towels etc) and he is thrilled. Even a basketball, he plays with all the kids and they all want to throw into the basketball net so we always need a bunch.

Gift cards are great becasue video games are pricey and if he gets a couple we add them together to get the one he wants.

He also love gift cards from Dairy Queen, dont know if that is an option.

He also loves the Magic Tree house series of books. I help out in his school library and they just love them and have now for awhile.

Hope that helps!

I second the Nerf items - however around here it's Nerf guns. My DD8 and her best friend (boy - 8) are forever playing with their Nerf guns. His 8th birthday party was a Nerf gun party.

However, that is something I would specifically ask the parents before buying. Some people would not approve of any "gun".

Other items we have given include snow cone machine with syrup (what kid doesn't love a good snow cone?), beach towel with these funky squirt worms, etc.
