katerkat.....we do have something else in common....DH (the boy who led me astray) is in the USAF, but he is a civil engineer....but funny enough....he wanted to be a pilot, got selected, but didnt pass the initial flight screening. Apparently the ability to land a multi-million dollar plane was important to the USAF

You can still do it, Pooh -- it doesn't take a lot of, well, anything, which is why I'm doing it. (It also doesn't pay very well, but...)
DH isn't a (real) pilot yet, but he gets closer to graduation every day! I'm always amazed they let him fly the planes...I've seen him drive!!

I remember wanting to be a military pilot...but I never really pursued it. Then I thought I'd go into Aerospace Engineering. Design spaceships...then I found out how few jobs there are, that you have to be nearly perfect in school, and the jobs that are out there you almost always need a Master's before they'd even consider you.

I have always been interested in science. Anyone remember MacGyver? I already had an interest and that show hooked me. I love that physics and chemistry kind of stuff.

I remember thinking I might get a minor in some language and be an interpreter. That never amounted to anything either.

So I ended up in a Geological-Environmental Engineering program, worked for the state Pollution Control Agency, got laid off as most junior in my group when 6 months pregnant with my first.

Turns out that was fine. I was having major stress...I wanted to stay home with my kids, but stressed over making the decision. The decision got made for me.

As it is, I think I am too independent of a person to be comfortable in the corporate world anymore. I like doing my work on my own time and I am good at time management. Right now I volunteer at school a lot and run my Pampered Chef business. When my youngest is in school full-time next fall I might look for a part-time job that is flexible with hours for me. I know I will be picky about it, but maybe the right thing will come along. Right now, Pampered Chef is bringing in good money and I am happy with that.

I always wanted to be a teacher because I love working with kids or an architect because I loved poring over house plans.
I spent 18 yrs in the horse racing business and am considering a substitute teaching job for September.

When I was really young I wanted to be a vet.

In HS I wanted to go into journalism, but I ended up becoming a Respiratory therapist. Funny because I was not into that kind of stuff in HS (I got a D in 11th grade anatomy class)

I always wanted to be a Mum. My parents remember asking me when I was about 4 and that was my answer all my life. The only other thing I had a fleeting thought in was a WAVE. A women in the navy on the ships. That idea really didn't take hold though because I was way too short. I became a Mum of 4 and now a dgrdm of 2 whom I look after a lot. Now my kids tell me I should be a dula or a midwife as I seem to have a great feel for it but don't think I'm smart enough to go through the training.

Honestly, I can't remember ever wanting to be one thing. I wanted to be an actress, a singer, and work at Disney World... I also wanted at one time to be a nurse, and a teacher.

Well, I grew up, taught school, and became a nurse... now I am getting ready to work at WDW! How great is that?

Always wanted to be an artist, for as long as I can remember. I've made my living from the arts in some capacity over my entire adult life, but right now I'm trying something a bit different by working in Human Resources. Which in itself can be sort of an art form at times......

I also can remember wanting to be the next Dorothy Hamill, until I grew too tall to be any good at figure skating; a singer like Stevie Nicks but was unfortunately born rather tone deaf; and a professional ballerina, again I grew too tall. Those were more fantasies than anything I took seriously, though. I pretty much always knew that fine art would be the realistic profession for my talent and skills.

and attend Michigan State University Law School. This was a dream I had in 6th or 7th grade. I have no idea why MSU or the law. One of my sisters was an English Ed major, and taught for a while, but she decided to become a lawyer. So at least that part stayed in the family. I never wanted to be anything else, and now I have been working at a major company for 32 years and get to retire in 6 weeks. I would love to work at WDW, but the comute would kill me, so I guess I will see if DH gets a career change and then I will see if I even want to work any more.

You probably are smart enough! But if you really don't want to do the training there are other ways you could put your expertise to good use. I was thinking of the volunteers at hospitals who give of their time just to hold and help care for the newborns/premies in the special care nursery. The babies who are given this love and attention really benefit, they thrive much better than those who don't. In some cases the babies are abandoned bc. of the circumstances of the birthmother. It sounds like you would be perfect for this type of work. Think about it.

When I was very young I wanted to be a teacher then when I was in the sixth grade I wanted to be an oceanographer.I later wanted to be a writer but I never could get the punctuation thing down. I was always putting commas where they shouldn't be(supposedly) and not putting them where they should be!!!!!

I have had several jobs so I guess I really have not picked a career yet(I am 42).

Maybe with our next PCS, which will be in 3 years. By then hopefully we will have started our family and maybe I can do some freelance work. Its been a while though since I've written. And, the low pay was another reason why I didnt pursue....had to pay those loans off, and DH was still in college at the time! One of us needed money!

Good luck to DH with flight school. A friend of ours from college flies B-1's out of Ellsworth. He is currently training to be a flight instructor!

Well if you look at my school years book I wanted to be a fireman and a policeman (a stretch for a girl I know LOL) then when I joined the military I decided on air traffic control...thanks to a recruiter who lied (uh what?!!!?) I ended up NOT being a controller...

I am now a conference coordinator for a global company.

Crazymomof6 I have thought of that as well but unfortunatly I live in a small town with an even smaller hospital (they just started doing births there but if something goes wrong you are airlifted out) and the other hospitals are a distance away. Maybe, when I am not doing so much for my parents and grandkids I could do that. It's actually the birthing part (well I do love babies though as well) that I enjoy. I say my oldest dgrdd born and it was the greatest thing. I was her coach as she didn't have anyone else.

Me too. We have a TV show on a cable channel called "A Baby Story". It follows an actual couple from the last month or so of preg. until a few weeks after birth. No matter how many times I watch it, I still bawl my eyes out everytime they show the baby being born!
Yikes! I just noticed that you gave me two more kids! ("Crazymomof6") I hope that's not an omen or something.
We haven't even finished the addition to the house made necessary by baby #4!

BTW: I have vacationed very often in Sharbot Lake, Lake Baptiste and Whitney, Ontario. Any of those near you? We love it up there!

Now I work with computers. When I was a kid, it seemed that you had to be a genius to work with computers. Times have changed - Look at me!

I won't to be a computer sciencst when I was 5. I started to grow the computer programmer. Got into college and realize that I hate programming. Went into end-use support and computer network support and feel love in college that what have my degrees in.

What I am doing now Concession Stand Manager love it but it's not a year around is stuck looking for work in the winter.

I would love to have a job in computers have not found a compmany will to give a chance.
