to jump start your weight loss?
I would LOVE to have something get me going - you know loose quite a bit real quick & then keep on working on it - I KNOW it's not the best way to keep it off but I need some sort of motivation - I just can't get motivated - I started once a few weeks ago think I lost 4 pounds - BUT I'm not sure the scale's right (even though it's supposed to be always right!) and then I'm sure I've gained the 4 back by now

Any suggestions?

I think that's a very individual thing, but I can tell you that 2 years ago, I started Atkins two weeks before a WDW trip, thinking I would try it out and if it didn't work, I could just step back and re-evaluate my plan, but I lost 9 pounds in those 2 weeks and never looked back!

I ended up losing 33 pounds in 6 months (25 of them from January - April), and stayed low-carb for quite a long time. I switched to South Beach to get my aunt off my back about Atkins (yup, great reasoning), and stayed closely to good carbs/good fats until this spring, when life stress sent me too far into sugary things again.

I've got a handle on it again, and I'm happy with what I'm doing now, which is mostly South Beach with more exercise than before.

I have a real problem with stress eating, especially with chocolate and ice cream, and controlling my sugar intake was the key for me. Your mileage may vary, as the expression goes.

But Atkins and South Beach do provide at least the chance of dramatic results in a healthy way to get your momentum and motivation going.

Good luck!!

january of last I had purchased a pair of Tan dockers pants.....I loved them but they did NOT fit- skin tight all the way down YUCK!. I am wearing them now as i type :goodvibes it took about 3mths, and i remind myself when i start to get lazy ( WW) that the cute dockers won't fit if i stray of WW program.

I also had a one piece swim suit that i hung in the bathroom ---all winter and spring. when i bought it the summer before, it was skin tight and cut off my circulation...I tried that thing once in while also. I never wore it this summer....i went out and bought a tankini :)
as you can tell,my motivation is clothes.....I totally can't stand tight pants on my rear and stomach :furious:

I felt horrible! Was having trouble walking, etc. Went to one doctor, and he told me to come back when I couldn't walk at all. Then, went to a different doctor, and he said, yes-I was messed up but we can fix it, but it will take a long time. SO, I cried a bit, got some good advice, a prescription for orthotics and PT, and a new diagnosis. Well, since then (late January of this year) and I have lost 40 pounds (I am stuck here, but I am here) and I feel better! I still have a way to go with my health, and weight, but I see results, and feel results. And one of the things that have made a difference is the diet change. I was told I had a gluten intolerance, and I went gluten-free right away (talk about withdrawals!) and I went on a South Beach style of diet, with total elimination of root veggies (too much sugar). It is working, and now, the kick start needs more exercise.

Good luck to you!

Hope this helps! Looks like all ideas are similar. Something must be right.

I must say I found WISH. I came here and posted often. It really helped me. I decided I needed to start to do something, anything and taqke it as I could.

For me I started Atkins. Atkins taught me how to make smarter choices. You detox with a very low carb way of eating because most of our carb choices are not healthy. After time you learn to choose better healthier carbs (kind of like a merge to South Beach). Now I am working with small portion sizes, healthier eating choices and walking/running.

Good luck with whatever path you have chosen. You can do this and you are certainly in a good place to keep yourself accountable and help others while you help yourself.

Keep on keepin' on.

My rude awakening started when I injured my knee (I have arthritis) on my last trip to WDW. I ended up in a wheelchair on the day we went to Epcot. I swore I would never let this happen again. I started a WISH journal and started counting calories. My weight loss has been slow, which is hard to take sometimes, but I think in the long run, that will be better for me. Quick weight loss and fad diets never seem to be permanent. Your success will come from a lifestyle change, not a temporary diet. Good luck to you! I know its not easy, but think of yourself being healthier and happier too!

For me, its been a few things:
1. I hated being in Disney in October and my thighs rubbing, OUCH!!!!!!
2. I am a new nurse and seeing how hard it is for these overweight people to get better, their health is not good to begin with, but with the Diabetes, not being able to care for their daily hygiene etc. I DON'T want to be that way.
3. I feel I miss out on a lot of fun with the kids b/c I get tired or sweat too much.

so far so good...
