I'll start a new week off...

A few days ago I bought 6.5 lbs of ground beef at BJs for $2.49/lb. So, this morning I got my BIG pot out and boiled it, strained off the fat, and then packaged it into 7 different bags. This saves me tons of time, since the meat is already cooked I just add it to my recipe for dinner. And, I was able to get a better price by buying in bulk.

I also ran 2 loads of wash and have them air drying in the house.

I also turned the temp down in the house since I'm the only one home. Ate last night's left overs for lunch.

Not sure if this is so much of a savings as a warning, although it did *save* me money.

I was trying to purchase a new dishwasher from Sears.com. Chose the one I wanted, Kenmore, and went to put it in my shopping cart. On the front page it shows it as $279.99 (the page with the dishwasher and the name of it, etc), but when you click for more details it switches the price to $299.99. I have spent the last hour on the phone with Sears (unhappily of course) for them to tell me over and over that they update the prices in their cart first and that is the price there is nothing they can do about it.

Finally, the 4th person I spoke with has offered to credit me back the difference even though that isn't the right price. The price has been that way for well over an hour! I have been on that page since earlier this morning.

So, I guess I saved $20 even though it shouldn't have been a savings. Really puts a damper on my opinion of Sears and Kenmore also. Sad.

I went looking for some new dressy yet and cozy boots....looked in a few stores all in a strip mall, found a nice pair on clearance for 55.00- thought,so nice, but let me look around a bit, after checking out the other nearby stores, and NOT buying a new couch pillow,or a new hoodie on clearance for ds,or new sneakers for other ds (doesn't need them) I went back and grabbed the boots,thinking"55.00 ,and I'll wear these for years and years" when I checked out they were only 39.99!(plus store rewards)
And,while I was thinking and shopping,I went to the grocery store, went to buy some canned tomatoes for sauce, and found 28 oz. cans of organic puree(mmm) ,regular price 2.50 a can- they were on sale for 2/4.00,plus the cans had a buy 2 cans, get 1.00 off on them.... got 8 cans,at 1.50 apiece! (normally,I'm doing well to get 'non organic' cans for around 1.00 each.....
happy shopping day for Mama!
sorry,posted in last weeks,then in here.....

Called my local hospital about a medical bill I had received (after my insurance company paid their portion), per the suggestion of a thread I read awhile back. Asked the patient account clerk, if there was any discount available for paying in full; she immediately knocked 15% off of my bill saving me nearly $50. The charge went right on my Visa, which I will pay in full.

I will NEVER pay a hospital bill again, without at least calling to ask. Seriously this was the fastest $50 I have ever earned. :goodvibes

To whomever posted this suggestion, thank you.

Spun out in the snow, bounced off a guard rail and my car is now totaled. The loser I am divorcing dropped my full coverage to liablity, so I have no car, no need for gas money and no insurance to pay! Yes, it sucks to be me! Another question would be "what did you do today to cause someone who is cheating on you money?" I will be renting a car and loser gets to pay for it until I can sell all our household crap and get on a plane and get the he$% out of Germany!

Stayed home instead of out shopping on my day off. Counted the change bucket (70.00)!

I'm so sorry Tom!! I'm a firm believe in "what comes around goes around," so maybe your patience will reward you (and his jackarse-ness will be too!)

Haven't posted in a few days because I've been sick and sleeping a lot, and then this weekend we spent WAY more money than I was pleased about. The hubs and I are starting a new workout and we needed weights (we were wanting to buy some for a while anyways), and the best that would have worked for us were adjustable dumbbells (due to price and space constraints). And we need a pair of them! We live overseas and have very limited resources to shop at, so our exchange had two types - one that was cheaper that had terrible reviews online (plus there was only one dumbell), and another that was over $100 more...each! We eventually found the same ones online with a much cheaper price and were able to pricematch and get them nearly half off. Not too shabby!

Yesterday I didn't go anywhere except to get a propane refill for the grill. Luckily being so busy with things at home keeps me IN the home and OUT of stores :)

Yest. I saved about $20 at the grocery store and used a $5 coupon off eating out and now today I got an e mail that I won another on line contest!! Yippee, its a baby gift package with a stuffed animal, lullaby cds, baby memory book and baby story book. Yeah , my cousins son just had their lst baby, so this will be most of the present,

I'll join in - we are having my oldest DD's b'day party this weekend and are taking her and her friends to the IceZone at the St. Louis Mills to go ice skating. There is a b1g1 free coupon in the Entertainment book, so I called my mom, sister and friends to be sure that I have enough coupons to get every other one free. The girls love it and it really makes it a cheap party (other than the food for everyone) because it's just $5.50 to get in and $2.50 for skate rental. With the b1g1 free coupon, it just makes it $10.50 for every 2 kids!

My DH went away for work this morning, so today I made a beef taco casserole that he doesn't like. This way I could use up some tortillas that were getting dry and then I don't have to cook my meals for 2 days. Saves me money (torts would've been tossed) and time.

I shopped at ALDI for the very 1st time. Didn't get everything I needed on my list, but was able to purchase a lot of stock pantry items (which I normally buy generic anyway). I have been impressed by the few things we have tried so far. I told the clerk it was my 1st time there and he laughed and said, "You'll be back because you save so much money." I told him that I leave my usual grocery store feeling as though I've just been robbed because the prices just keep going up, up, up!

I always save money by ordering college textbooks online. This past time, my son switched some classes around so I had him get the books at the college bookstore until I could order them elsewhere online. This time, I used the Alibris & Amazon site.

For example:
Physics: paid 163.13 w/tax at the bookstore; I found online for $29.97 + shipping.

Sociology - paid $126 w/tax at the bookstore; I found online for $67.10 + shipping

Psychology - paid $124 w/tax at the bookstore; I found online for $15.98 + shipping

That means I paid a total of only $132 for 3 books! vs. paying $413 at the bookstore. It's the same book, same edition!! A SAVINGS OF $281.13

He was able to return the books he bought at the bookstore as long as he did it within 2 weeks of class starting. I had time to get the books online and I didn't mind paying a few extra bucks for expedited shipping

He told his roommate what he did, and now his roommate plans to order online as well. His roommate just got it from the bookstore because it was easier. He didn't realize how much he could be saving.

I used my $25 restaurant.com coupon that I got for $2.50 for our dinner tonight! AND since we were there before the end of happy hour, our appetizer was 50% off!

I stood in line last night for about 90 minutes in about 26 degree weather for a free pair of running shoes that retails for about $100.

Today I went no where, so no gas for me. I also drank water today. I think I've finally kicked the soda habit, I even skipped the fantastic deal on Pepsi at CVS the other week! That's gotta save me at least $15/month on soda. :thumbsup2

Windy - something I just learned about a week ago (sorry if I'm so behind the times and you already know this!):

http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=211309,00.html

Its the American Opportunity Credit, and for tax years '09-'10, its up to a $2,500 tax break for higher education expenses, including course materials! DH and I are going back to school as well, and he is several credits ahead of me due to his military career. However, he doesn't have his requisite basic classes, and we are taking those together (a term apart) so we can share textbooks. It sure is saving us a good bit of money that way!

As for myself, I didn't do anything yesterday other than get gas, which there is no avoiding. So...no money spent!

:thumbsup2 Love the ground beef idea. I have done this off and on for years. It really does save time. I sometimes add taco seasoning to some of it and package that up in containers. Once I seasoned some for spaghetti sauce too. You can package some up with onions and peppers also cooked in it. :goodvibes
