What Did You Do For A Veil?

Just curious. My fiance has heard that David's Bridal, where I got my dress, has a tendency to overcharge for the veils they sell. I know I wasn't too impressed with how pushy the assistant was with me. I have to go in on Tuesday for some alterations, and even when I spoke to her about that, she kept insisting she would pick out jewelry, veil, headpiece, bag, shoes, gloves, ect, even after I told her it really wouldn't be necessary.

Can anyone recommend a place in the Tampa area of Florida where they might have gotten their veil? My future Mother-In-Law has offered hers, but I haven't seen it yet, so I don't know if it'll go with the dress or not. The wedding is Oct 1. Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

I actually found mine on ebay, 2 tier elbow length with crystal edge, for $40 and after the wedding, I sold it back on ebay for $30....the price worked for me and it was a great looking veil

eBay!! Veils are the single biggest ripoff in the wedding industry. I tried on a simple two-tiered, fingertip length veil with rhinestones I could have glued on myself. Price: $675!!!

eBay has tons of veils - I just bought one for $30... Don't know if I like it yet, but maybe I can just sell it back on eBay like StitchBride!

this site also has pretty veils...some are a bit pricey but less than what David's charges and i've heard that the orders come in pretty fast...this is where i plan on buying my veil and tiara.

I completely understand what you mean about David's employees being pushy. I am not wearing a veil, not at all. I told the girl this when I was trying on my dress, and she proceeded to shove veils into my hair, not only was it annoying, but it actually hurt (some of those combs are really pointy!). My sister wore one, she had a very pretty elbow length with tiny embroidered white daisys and crystals on it, she bought it super cheap at a Michael's craft store (not sure if you have any where you are). well,im not into veils at all...but my mother is, so i obliged her and got one at David's when i got my dress...the ONLY reason i bought it there was because it matched my dress perfectly...it was grossly overpriced, but oh well...

I also bought my veil on eBay. It was under $20. It looks just as nice as anything at David's and possibly is made just as nice. I'm wearing it for 1 day and a couple hours another day... so I'm happy with the purchase!

She had a few veils that I liked, but I'm worried because although she has a lot of good feedback, ALL the bad reviews say the same thing. They either received the wrong item, or it was damaged, or they sent it back, and she isn't responding to their attempts to contact her at all. I get a little suspicious when that's such a common complaint.

Does anybody have any eBay sellers or stores they might recommend for this?

I was thinking that because the dress itself has some adornments on the bottom that shine, I might want a veil with the same thing (scattered crystals or pearls or a beaded bottom) to balance it out. Would you guys recommend that, or going with a plain one? I just moved to Florida from Canada, so I don't really know anybody here I can ask for their opinion just yet. You guys are the experts after all.

Also, BrcsDisneyPrncs, I know what you mean. The saleswoman I had continually brough over their most expensive dresses because once she found out where I was holding the wedding she insisted I needed a "princess dress". Even after I asked her to go ahead and bring me other dresses that weren't "princess like", as she put it, she kept bringing them out, even after I politely told her the ones she had been showing me were much too far out of my prince range. I can understand offering an opinion, but still. At one point after I said I might like to see another style she actually said to me, "Well, I HAVE been doing this for twelve years you know." Oh well. Got my dress. All's well.

Even though my David's sales person was wonderful, once I told her where the wedding was... she did try the princess thing. That was after I bought my initial dress and she was right, I needed something with a little more pizazz which is why I was back for Dress #2! She wasn't pushy, though. I've definitely kept the location as quiet as possible when dealing with people because they see $$$$$.

theres a veil I want form Davids bridal but its $150. My dress is more than I wanted to pay so I wasn't going to get the veil but I decided to ask my grandma to get it for me for Christmas. I looked at getting a cheaper veil but I couldn't find anything I liked. the one at David's has the same embroidery as my dress and is the same champagne color. Everything else I'm doing for the wedding has been on extreme budget so I figure its one place I'd like to splurge.


edit: I'd also like to add that my sales girl at David's is the best! She was super friendly and helpful and really listened to what I was looking for. My sister had a great girl too back in March but when we went to make another app. she had quit My sister is just getting home this week from being away for months so we 2 days to find her a dress before she leaves again so we're making an app. with the girl I had. Hopefully she likes her as much as I did.

I used my mom's. It was slightly dated (it had a cap piece...it was the 70s what can I say. ) I removed it from there and then sewed it onto a comb. I know that cryssi...you can find her on the Disneyland sticky...made her own and added hidden mickeys to it. I think there was a post about how she made it.

I confess... the veil is one thing I completely splurged on. It is a mantilla style veil that I ordered from the bridal store I got my dress at. Most people fall in love with a dress... I fell in love with a veil .... ha ha. I just had to have it though. I am getting a little nervous though because I ordered it the first week of March and it STILL has not come in BUT everyone is right, there are TONS of options for very inexpensive veils on the internet such as ebay, etc.

i made mine..I bought both the comb from MICHAEL'S Crafts and a child's communion veil because I wanted a shorter veil. They had the longer veils too. The veil came with a clear plastic comb that I just took off (ot had elastic loops that the teeth fit in..then I hooked it on the the silk comb..MICHAELS has MANYMANYMANY different styles of colmbs and tiara's
