What did you buy for your trip?

do you really need a new suitcase, ipad, laptop, and camera for a trip?
if you already have these things then i'd say no definitely not.

i sometimes buy new clothes like some disney themed shirts or a fresh pack of socks and underwear, or sneakers.

other than that i mostly just buy some toiletries/otc medications (if i'm in need), and a couple food items like pop tarts for breakfast in the room.

i have a disney rain poncho from a good 8 trips ago that still works just fine so i don't even buy ponchos.

i'd much rather be spending my money on souvenirs while at disney world instead of things that are not necessary to have a great time.

Well I needed a new carry on, as I didn't want to check all of our things. So, yes sometimes you do need to buy luggage.

I bought rain ponchos for our last trip. For the next trip DH has already bought him self a new camera and a few lenses LOL! I am thinking of investing in brita bottles w/cozies so I can be more hands free.

phone chargers are nice to have too.

I always buy completely new clothes. At least, new to me. I like to do second hand stores for this because it could get expensive otherwise, haha. But I have this weird thing about not wearing anything on a Disney trip that I wore on a previous trip because then I might look at the pictures and not be able to tell which trip it was. I am a freak. I know. :) The kids are always in a new size from one trip to the next so it doesn't matter as much for them. :)

OH and everyone gets new socks and underwear and toothbrushes! That is a vacation MUST!

We have a tradition of buying a new piece of luggage while we are down there but not before the trip. I like Disney luggage. :)

The only thing I actually bought specifically for this upcoming trip is a pair of christmas ears. That said, I have a supply of bandaids, neosporin, advil, and ponchos I bring on every trip. Somebody generally ends up needing them! My portable phone charger is the most useful thing I have ever purchased for Disney (besides good shoes). I have a jackery.

true but would you buy a new suitcase in general when the one you have is functional?
it sounds like OP just wants to buy things for the sake of buying them not because they are needed.

This is our first trip in a couple of years so I did splurge and buy lots of little fun things for our trip that I might not usually buy for everyone like dollar lanyards from Party City, Disney hand wipes from the dollar store, light up toys from the dollar bin at Target, Minnie head bands and crowns for the girls, hats for the boys, Tshirts for the kids, etc. All of this and some other cute extras are going into gift bags for everyone at the beginning of the trip. We don't usually do this but I wanted to as fun early Christmas gifts.

I also did get a new suitcase because mine is starting to rip where the handle is. This summer I went to Chicago and my carryon had to be checked at the last minute. The next time I saw it, it was in a bin with all of the contents busted all over :sad2:(luckily I had everything packed in smaller bags and a laundry bag). The zipper had somehow been damaged. I didn't want to take any chances with my larger one already starting to rip. I definitely needed a new suitcase for this trip! :thumbsup2

We also bought external batteries for our iPhones.

Meh, I bought a ton of stuff I didn't need, just for the sake of buying it. Some stuff I needed like shoes, luggage and chaffing sticks, moleskin etc. Then packing cubes, lanyards, pins, glow sticks,t-shirts, and a hip pack.

But then it got out of control in my excitement. I'm now dialing it back and thankfully we still have a month to go. Just because it sounds like a good idea doesn't mean you need to bring it. I should have thought more about the stuff they'd really up the price on, like cold medicine, and just scrounging more from around our house for the rest. But that's me. Some folks would want everything new because it's nice to have fresh stuff...needed no, but nice all the same.

It also comes down to how much do want to schlep. I was thinking of bringing our laptop and getting a new external hard drive for our pictures but I'm going to make due with sd cards and pray we don't lose them. DH won't be able to help if he's tired which means I carry everything. So I'm making choices.

If I were driving I'd probably pack it all. Thankfully we aren't. I need to learn to pair it down tho as I always overpack.

The 24-240mm will probably be most used while in Animal Kingdom. Otherwise I think the smaller one will do. Backup batteries for cell phones.

I have bought some extra camera batteries, an extra sd card and some pins to trade for my upcoming DLR trip

I still don't know where these dollar store ponchos are, I've been through every aisle at my local Dollar Tree and have never seen them

Ask someone.

Or pop in on a rainy day. They will probably have them up front.

If you NEED that stuff, you should buy it, obviously. If you're just anxious for your trip and you're shopping and over-preparing to fill the time, that's probably not the best idea.

I generally do my new sneaker and t-shirt shopping around my Disney trips. Last trip I also hunted down a small day bag and tried Nuun tablets (electrolyte tables you drop in bottles of water). My anker battery was starting to get old so I picked up a new one that could charge both of our phones while in the park at the same time.

There's really not too much you need aside from what you would bring on any day trip anywhere.

What didn't I buy! :)

A new camera
Sneakers for all four of us
glide
new clothes, underwear, socks for all of us
fold up hamper
snacks, water, juice
gift cards
portable chargers
backpack
all kinds of toiletries

We had the best trip ever last August. I want to go back in the worse way!

If you're going to buy a new camera, buy it early enough that you can use it and get used to any different settings.

I was planning to buy at least 1 new big suitcase if we weren't able to repair the wheel on our old one. We had a yard sale at church and a couple brought an almost new one the size I needed. They are very clean people - you can probably eat off their floors. Got it for $5! Score! And when we were coming home from our last trip, the wheel broke off a different old one (matched the original one). They've been to San Diego, Out West, WDW 3 times and numerous trips to the beach and other places. They look a bit rough, but by the time you fly one time, new ones would too.

I like to use my 75-300mm while wandering the trails at AK to get great shots. Also to get architectural details at all the parks but especially Epcot.

we bought some of those ugly sweater sweatshirts from the disney store website for our upcoming trip later this month! other than that for the special occasion of going for the first time at christmas, we really don't get that much. just make sure that our park bags aren't totally destroyed or too dingy. cheap ponchos like everyone else has said.

if you get a rental car and don't take the DME, there's really no need to buy a ton of stuff before your trip because you can leave property if you have to. If you are taking the DME, i would suggest making sure you buy medicine, bandaids, diapers...stuff like that is a bit harder to come by on property than clothing and ponchos.
