Hey gang. We've just come back from a rotten experience at POR. Im left slack jawed.
We checked in at 4pm and arrived at our room to find it clean, but missing all linens. No sheets, no towles, nada. We called down to the desk and let them know that it still needed to be done and that we were heading out to play. When we came back after 11pm, it still had not been done! So we called down adn asked them to move us. They put us in a room next to a generator (VVVRRRRRMMMMMMMM). I couldnt believe it! So we went back to the lobby again to be moved and I made them pull out the book and tell us about the room. Well they put us in a room with a "waterview" only the view was blocked by the staircase in front of the room and it was surrounded by the loudest toilets in the free world. But at that point we made do.
The day of our check out we had a knock at the door at 8:30 am. Knock knock knock, "housekeeping." Now we were there without kids and were still asleep. My husband called out that we were sleeping and to plase come back later (we know she could hear us because we could hear what was going on outside). knock knock knock, "housekeeping." My husband said to come back later. She kept doing it until I got out of bed and came to the door. Sure enough there was the housekeeper, but she had no gear. Aparently she was only there to drag us out of bed on check out day!

So what Im wondering is, did I just imagine all the stories of free upgrades and extra coddling when inconvenienced, like the guy who didnt like the proximity of his three moderate rooms and was given a grand villa at OKW instead? What did Disney do for you, when they messed up?

Not trying to be mean, but other than the towel thing and the knocking early, I'm not sure they really messed up that much.

I mean, somebody has to have the room by the generator, right? As for the stairs blocking the water view, did you pay for a water view? If not, I don't see how you can complain about that. And the toilets are loud, but we've found that to be the case in a lot of Disney resorts. (They're sort of infamous for their "turbo toilets.")

Like I said, the towel and sheet problem was a definate goof, and I can understand why the early knocking bothered you. However, we always put the "Do Not Disturb" sign out when we are going to be sleeping til around 8am or so, since that seems to be when Mousekeeping starts doing their thing. I know you said she didn't have a cart, but she more than likely just had it parked down the hall aways and was checking to see which rooms she could clean.

Honestly, both of those problems seem sort of minor, and I wouldn't expect much in the way of compensation. I hope you had a good trip anyway!

We've had a few minor glitches happen, but I don't think we've ever gotten any real compensation or anything.

Oh, wait, one time at All Star Movies we did have a problem with the toilet in our room. It was broken when we got in the room, but we didnt' want to move, since we like the location. They said they would find someone to fix it, but it did take them a few hours. They gave us vouchers for a a free meal at the food court.

We stayed at AKL once and when we got to our room it looked as if someone had just left. Paper spread out on the table, raincoat in the floor and I wasnt sure about the sheet situation or not so I wanted them changed. We left for many hours to go to dinner and Pleasure Island. Came back at 1am--room was still the same. We called the front desk and they did send someone up asap. The mousekeeper said she would report it to her supervisor since it should have already been taken care of.
Next morning I stopped by the front desk to speak to a manager to let them know what had happened. I didnt not ask for anything nor did I expect anything in return except for a clean room. Althought I do expect many out there demand certain things for being inconvienced. Ours was not really to big of deal to us.
We always put our DND sign on our door because we do like to sleep in. It is odd she came by your room without her cart if she was planning on cleaning it then. Sorry you had such a rough time.

We didnt expect or ask for anything either, but I didn't expect to be put into a worse room, when they are fixing their own goof. That's all i was saying.

I agree with the others, although you were slightly inconvenienced, this wasn't such a big deal that I would expect much from them.

Write a letter, keep it businesslike and unemotional, and tell them you'd like to try their resort again, but would like some reassurance that your stay might go a little smoother the next time, and ask what they can do to assure that it will.

Send it to the GM of the resort, and see what happens. My bet is that you'll get an upgrade to a better view, but I wouldn't expect more than that.

In all my trips to WDW, we've only had one time that we felt our resort needed to make amends for a bad situation. We were staying at the GF, and had so many problem, rude concierge, no valet/bell service available when we arrived (not a matter of waiting a few minutes, it was over 15 minutes before we schlepped the bags ourselves), assigned a handicapped room with no tub, room wasn't ready until after 5:00pm--although we had been told at 2:30 it would be ready "shortly", did I mention rude concierge staff? On top of all that they lost our luggage while they were transferring it to the BW. They claimed it had been delivered to the BW, turns out it was in their storage room the entire time. Then they wanted US to come back over to the GF to pick it up (we didn't have a car!)

At that point I had enough, and wrote a letter. We went back at a discounted rate with a guranteed castle view room. It was a much better experience the second time around, and I felt they at least made an effort to make me a satisfied guest.

I know you are just asking what was done when a problem was experienced at WDW.

We were given dinner at one of the resorts last year because our room was a MESS! and I actually injured myself due to awful housekeeping. I didn't ask for it. It was offered, so I took it. How this made for the awful housekeeping is beyond me.

It drives me nuts when the housekeepers enter the room before you have a chance to respond or they don't even knock.

We had a housekeeper walk in on us last year at YC. My children were sleeping and my DH was changing. She knocked while she was opening the door. I was upset.

Housekeeping pouding on the door is a real pet peeve of mine. Checkout is 11am,and by golly we usually leave at 10:59. It's vacation for goodness sake -- people are allowed to sleep in, and the housekeepers need to DEAL with it...

Just my 2 cents! :)

I generally make it a habit not to complain. But once at the Poly during the night the ceiling literally fell down. In the morning we went to the front desk and asked to speak to a manager, the cm told us none was available. We told them what happened and asked if we could have something off the room. She said she had no authority to do that. I was getting a little upset but then I was resigned to the fact this person was totally useless and we were going to the beach club anyway. I just wanted to make sure there was no way we were being charged for that mess. I literally had to put towels over all the ceiling tiles smashed on the floor just to get into the bathroom. Thank heavens I was the 1st one up in the morning and not any of the 3 ds. I did hear a loud crash during the night but thought it was outside. Oh well. I guess mousekeeping and maintenance had a nice day fixing that one.

I didnt see that you did ask for anything, and the cooment really was a general one not to you but I felt I needed to add that because some people who read the boards do go in demanding things. I know somethings in print dont come across as they were meant. :D
