I'm not sure if it was my mistake or the product itself that was at fault. I made up a design. ironed it onto the t shirt as per all the instructions - I thought - but then when it was washed the design cracked, peeled and generally failed dismally.

I think my mistake was in putting it in the washer although the instructions did say it would be machine washable and I did only wash it cool wash on a gentle cycle.

I'd be glad of any suggestions or input.

TIA

Some iron on transfers tend to crack, like you experienced. The more expensive the transfer paper, generally the better it works.

That being said, try the following:

Iron the transfer on BOTH SIDES. Iron it to the shirt, then turn the shirt inside out and iron it again. This ensures the transfer is sticking.

Don't use a steam setting. That will mess with the adhesive.

Wash the shirt inside out. It is less abrasive to the design.

Use AMYMICKEY's transfers. They don't crack, fade, or peel. My boys wore their shirts for almost a year (washed MANY times) before the transfers started to crack. If you PM me, I will give you her info. :goodvibes

I 2nd that. I have thrown shirts away because they are outdated or I spilled something on it (I am great for that) but the iron on still looks great :thumbsup2Penny

Ironing on both sides was not something I tried. I'll definitely give that a try. I didn't want to make up another one until I'd checked out what was occurring.

Thanks for your hints

Is the paper you mentioned available in the UK, do you know?

I believe she does, but you have to pay for the extra shipping. She is here on the boards if you want to PM her (she is not allowed to advertise on the boards due to forum rules). :goodvibes

another :thumbsup2 for amy's transfers!! which reminds me, Ineed to order more!!!

I am planning to use Amy's transfers. Can you tell me how long her turn around time generally runs for shipment (here in US)? Thanks!

I have ordered twice from Amy and both times I was absolutely shocked at how fast she shipped, and her customer service is outstanding!

I will also testify for AMYMICKEYs transfer paper!!

The transfers seem much more flexible and haven't cracked on me. Much higher quality than I have found in Walmart, Staples or Michaels.

Also, don't let the shirts sit in the dryer. Take them out immediately. If they sit, at least the cheaper transfers, tend to crack and then peel.
