What did I do wrong with this waitlist? Cancelled my remaining reservation

I had a SS standard booked for 7 nights in May and put in 2 waitlists for BVW standard for seperate days. The points are 232 for SS and BWV. 1 day of the waitlist came through but replaced my remaining SS reservation. All of the remaining points went back into the use years. I then tried to reserve the remaining 6 nights and start a new waitlist but it now states that I need to borrow 2 points from my 2023 use year. My original intentions were to try and waitlist 1 day at a time but it backfired. What was the best way to try without cancelling the rest of the reservation?

I'd just borrow the 2 points. It's not a big deal to me. 2 points borrowed are the same as 2 points banked through to me, but I go multiple times a year.

When you choose replace for a waitlist, it replaces the entire thing. You can’t set it up online to replace just partial days.

It sounds like maybe that is what you did?

To waitlist just a few days at a time and have it just replace those, you have to book that way or call MS to do it so they can add a manual note to only replace the matching data.

So, you have to book each night as it’s own. If it doesn’t fill, then MS can merge back together later on.

Not sure why you would be 2 points shy so I’d call MS if the BWV night and the SSR night are the same points.

Since I am not able to replace partial days then that appears what happened! I was wrong about the points. 232-236 for Boardwalk. Hate to borrow the points in case it doesn't go through in the end...

We had a BW S and 2BR booked but waitlisted a GV. we couldn’t do a replacement cause it was two reservations and didn‘t have enough points for the GV without canceling the other two so I waitlisted it with a Do Not automatically borrow setting. When the waitlist came through (never saw it stalking the site) MS called and asked what we wanted to do and they took care of the change exactly the way we wanted but could not have done ourselves, canceling the two (S & 1BR) and using the points for the GV.

If I remember correctly they gave us 48 hrs to call them back after they left a message. it was like they had the GV on hold waiting for our instruction but after that would cancel our WL and release the room.

Our first time so don’t know if this is normal. Worked great for us.

If there is something odd or confusing about a waitlist they will reach out.

But normally, if you set it up to replace something, they will go by that.

I have had waitlist for one night and set up to cancel two because I got one of the nights via stalking. They didn’t call because it was clear.

In your case, there must have been something that they saw that made them check with yoy.

There was. I didn’t have enough points and told them not to borrow.

I thought they would just ignore the request. Instead it gives me another avenue for managing changes since I know they will call for guidance.

in the OPs situation, instead of setting the waitlist up as a replacement, it could have been setup as an unfillable request (not enough points) and generated a MS call that could then do a modification to the original and fulfilling the WL.

it wouldn’t change the point situation, but could have avoided the unwanted cancellation and rebooking.

Just to be aware they do not always call. So I would not rely on that as something that would definitely happen.
