Hi all! We are mulling over the thought of doing DL instead of DW next year. Best times for us are June 18-25 or late August. This is the first time we have even considered going cross country to try out DL, so I am in virgin territory here ;). I know what deals DW offers, and I see the current deals for DL (buy three, get two from now till Sept). Do they offer anything for the summer, usually? Thanks for the help!

Usually getting deals at DLR in the summer is tough. The last couple summers they have had some good hotel deals because of the down economy. I doubt you will see that next summer but who knows?

DLR has a very different dynamic than WDW when it comes to summer crowds. With over a million Annual Pass holders and many from SoCal, there are some unusually crowded times that occur right when you are thinking about going. See "Understanding AP Blockouts and Impact on Crowds" http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2365983

If those are the only times you can go then it is of course still possible to have a great trip. You should juts be prepared to have some extra crowds on hand and do a bit more planning.

Thanks for those threads! So, when are the best times to go next year regarding crowds and prices? Does it get really chilly before June there? Don't want to go if it's cold. I have that weather here, and could just go to Florida to warm up.

I am semi-flexible with dates, but of course I wanted to go when school lets out.

The stickies also have general weather patterns, but keep in mind - no one can predict the weather exactly :) For example, usually Anaheim is SUPER hot (but not humid) in July & August. This year - very mild and pleasant, perhaps a little too chilly for some!

Before June, May can be nice, but it can be cold Cali-wise, sometimes even rainy.

In terms of prices, DLR doesn't release specials months in advance (like WDW just did with their free dining plan).

Also, if you decide to go off-peak-season, keep in mind that many attractions and shows might be down for refurb/not showing. Park hours are greatly reduced also. This makes an off-season trip not so appealing to some (myself included). There's a sticky on that also.

The last 2 summers they've had 5 for 3 (6 for 4) deals. But as Hydro said, there is no guarantee. If they do, it's usually announced early April.

VERY helpful. From what I can tell, September, April and the beginning of June are the quietest times to visit DL. Those are the times we would visit. I always vote for less crowd over hot temps. Though, I do want the kids to be able to swim at the hotel. Can anyone tell me if those months are ok to swim in DL?

Sept and early June, definitely. April, probably, though it's variable. Heck, our DGD7 was swimming at HoJo's in early December!

I wouldn't put April in the "quiet time" category next year. Usually the end of April is good after spring break, but next year Easter isn't until the end of April so that wouldn't apply.

I would suggest September: low crowds, great weather. The only issue is Haunted Mansion closes for the Halloween overlay for a couple of weeks early in the month, and Space Mt for a few days for the same reason. This year its all back open by the 17th of September...next year who knows?

This usually gets a controversy going, but I am of the opinion that unless you are in a heat wave in SoCal it is just not very hot at DLR in the summer. Summer high temperatures in the mid-80's (with corresponding early morning and late night temps of 70 degrees) is ideal weather IMO. Some people claim that it is hotter inside the DLR parks than outside, which has never made much sense to me and I have never experienced. I also have never seen any measurements to justify this claim. That is my two cents. :)

As for quietest times to visit DLR, that would probably be late January through early March, May, early June sometimes, and September after Labor Day. My previous link in this thread discusses this: "Choosing When To Visit DLR: Summary of High and Low Season and When Each Happens " http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=36509602

I would agree that mid-80's as a high and 70's lows are terrific! Hmmmm. Gotta think about this some more. Mostly, what stops us is how much more expensive the whole trip is...no free dining offer, pricier flights, etc.
