My guess would be Monday, but I would see if your district has the calendar out yet. Usually you can see it on-line. I know all of the districts around here have next year's calendar out already.

No school that anyone in my family has ever attended has given Veteran's Day off -- it wouldn't be a good idea to count on it until you see the official schedule.

I have never heard of schools being off for Veterns day. Heck, my DH is a Veteran of Desert Storm and he doesn't even get the day off work!

it was a Saturday (DS is in Kindergarten now) and we had off the 10th. I did not realize it was an area specific thing. It is listed as a day off on our distict calendar, but, the date is not assigned.

Thanks.

where we live the kids do get Veteran's Day off of school but if it falls on the weekend they do not get it off.

I live in NY and we get the day off also. We will be in Disney Nov 3rd to the 17th. It works out for us because my husband has off for Election Day and Veterans Day so it is 2 less days he has to use towards vacation.
I have heard Nov is a great month to go, but the more I read, the more nervous I get, it seems the secret it out!!

Here in my part of Maryland, we are in school on Veterans' Day.

We don't have it off here in DE but we did when we lived in MA. FWIW our school calendar is posted mid March for the following year. You could probably check online at your school district website occasionally to see when it comes online.

Im wondering the same. I'll be at WDW 11/9-16 celebrating my 50th bday and wondering # days vacation I'll be needing. Think its too early to ask the boss?

Same here. In Texas (at least East Texas) we all go to school on Veteran's Day. Only fall days off because of holidays are Labor Day and Thanksgiving.

When I asked my school district this ? last year....I was told that it is only given off if it falls on a school day. This year it fell on Sat so there was no day off. This is Putnam County in NY. Hope this helps.

on the 10th for Vetrans Day this past November - so I guess I will ask at DS's school. We are planning to go to WDW in November and I would love to work it out so we can be away while he is off for Election Day & Vetrans Day - Thanks for the input!!

New this year is we get election days off. Were taking a 4 day trip to WDW around our May election.

I would check with your district, as I have a 4th grader and certain days off and when have changed from when he started in preschool 6 years ago. Spring break is always the one we have to watch, as we think the board changes it around to suit their vacation needs(last year it came out of left field, 2 weeks before Easter, not the usual week before or after Easter).

We don't have it off here in TN either. But we might book our trip that week if it's not that busy.

Just a consideration - I think Jersey Week is the week before - it usually falls around Election Day. The parks might be a little more crowded if Jersey Week is the weekend before the Veteran's Day holiday.

then DS will only miss 3 days of school, if not he will miss 4 days. How busy is Jersey week? (and what is it??)

Thanks!!

This is so funny, I my daughter is in Pre-K this year and will be in Kindergarten next Nov, but I have the same plan as you, be there for Election and Veterans Days! Now I am so totally worried that it is going to be crowded, lol

Every year, all school districts in New Jersey close the schools on a Thursday and Friday in early November for a teachers' conference in Atlantic City. This makes a 4-day weekend. Many families go away on vacaction given this opportunity. Many, like mine, take the kids out of school for some additional days that week. A good number of teachers take extra days off that week, too. With more substitutes than usual in the classrooms and more kids than usual absent, many schools don't schedule a lot of new material or tests that week, which then of course just feeds the cycle ....

Many of those people travel to WDW that week. It gets the busiest on the Thursday through Sunday of that week. It's not Easter or Christmas crowded, but it's quite crowded. The Unofficial Guide used to have a free website offering crowd predictions, with 1 being the least crowded and 10 being like Easter and Christmas. The Friday and Saturday of Jersey week were usually rated at an 8, while weekdays and weekends near that were usually at a 5 or 6.

P.S. I'm always amused when people talk about the overall schedules of their schools as being a function of what state they live in. School schedules are set by school districts, not by states. The "Jersey Week" days are the only ones in the year that are mandated by the state of New Jersey. NJ has something like 560 municipalities and over 600 school districts (no, that's NOT a typo -- don't ask!:sad2: ). Each district makes its own schedule. Heck, I live on a small island that has 3 different school districts, and all 3 don't have the same spring breaks, or days off for "minor" holidays, etc.
