What date should I set my UY points

Hi all

If I can only holiday in August every year, when date should I be setting my UY month.

If I'm right I think it should be mid-year to maximize the allocation. Have I got it right? I'm looking to purchase in Dec 2011 but also believe that doesn't influence the UY month

Based on what you've posted, an August use year would be best for you.

As a general rule of thumb, figure out the three consecutive months that you are least likely to travel. Then pick the month immediately after that.

Use year only matters if you have to cancel a vacation that falls late in your use year. That's because you want to be able to either bank the points fromt he cancelled vacation or use thembefore they expire.

For example, if you have to cancel either your August 2011 or December 2011 vacation, the points would expire July 31, 2012. If you couldn't reschedul your trip before then, you could bank the points and extend their life until July 31, 2013.

If something happens and you can't go in August, what do you do then? I guess you could bank those points into the next year, but if you have borrowed points for your August reservation, you would lose them.

With being able to only go in August and not the other eleven months, you may want to reconsider buying DVC.

I agree that August UY works well for August travel. However, if you think there is a chance your August trip could start at the end of July, then I would choose a June UY as it allows for that flexibility.

We are August travelers but sometimes may end up having to start in July so that is what we bought.
