What cures Nail Fungus?

Daisy Duck, I have heard that too. In fact, Dr. Gott (a columnist in a local paper) recommends it all of the time and he swears it works.

DawnCt1...that's exactly where I've read it too..dozens of times. :)

Know of 2 people that used Vics Vapor Rub successfully. (Both had problems with their big toe). It took time...seems like 3 months??

I have a NASTY fungus under my big toe. Looks like I need to make a run to Walmart or CVS Pharmacy for some Vics Vapor Rub or White Vinegar. Now that I know it takes a bit, I will try it. I wasn't faithful before only applying it once a day only a few days a week. I'll have to mark my calendar and see how it works.

My podiatrist had me on Lamisil by mouth for 3 months. It did go away, but came back. Pentlax (like a nail polish) was next. Didn't do anything. Sporanex was the third and last medication for me. THe fungus did go away, but came back. YUCK, I hate this. HE said he could remove my toenails (both big toes), cauterize it so the nail doesn't grow back, and paint my toe with nail polish to 'fake it' that I have toenails. I don't think so, at least until all other options are spent. I asked him about Vicks, since I had 2 co-workers that used it, and he said that he had heard of that, betadine, and Listerine. There are just so many types of fungus, that what works on one probably will not work on another. I am going to try the vinegar and see what happens. Mine just doesn't look bad, it is very painful at times and right now it is in a painful stage.
Good luck with your trial of home remedies, I will also try tea oil and whatever else I can try. Just remember that it takes almost 8 months or more to grow out. Mine got 'normal' looking, and then the fungus came back.

I started to get some nail fungus, I think it may have been from a pedicure!

The foot doctor recommended the vinegar.

Well, I didn't want to smell like vinegar, so I went and bought two different OTC products. There are a lot of them on the shelves. And, many of them don't really do a thing. You have to be careful what to buy.

I bought one antifungal treatment in a acetone base.
And different one, Fungi-nail, with undecyclenic acid 25% (They have a web site) It is in a more oily-type base.

I applied BOTH of these. And it helped.

But, everyone is right. On the toes, the nails grow very slowly. It will take months. And you HAVE to be religious about it! I would apply it to the whole toe. not just the nail. These things have a hard time penetrating the nail, so it has to soak in from all around.

Also, the drier your toes the better. Do not keep your feet in closed shoes except when absolutely necessary.

RE: Lamisal - My stepfather is diabetic and got the toenail fungus, so it was pretty critical for him to get it cleared up. It is a bit misleading, because it takes more than 1 prescription (at $300 a bottle) to get it cleared up. He had to take it for 3 months. Thank goodness they had prescription drug coverage - but had to pay and them be reimbursed.
My DH had the same thing but his liver enzymes were high, so they didn't want him to take the lamisal at all. His doctor told him to soak his affected feet in warm water and vinegar and it helped. Didn't completely clear it up, but there was a definite improvement.
