I recieve DLA for my daughter at the higher rate, she doesn't have any problems mobility wise, her problem is mainly horrible tummy problems. She frequently vomits, it comes up without any warning and due to bowel problems she can need the loo at any time during the day when she says she needs it she really does need it or it is a disaster.

Last year I didnt make any enquiries on getting the disabled pass, and we ended up standing ina queue for quite a while then almost when it was our turn we had to leave, I always go prepared with sick bags but when she is sick we get strange looks almost as if I dare to bring my daughter out when she has a tummy bug as severe as that.

Do you have to be in a wheelchair to qualify for it? I woul loike to think we could get round with out using one but it would be nice to know if we would qualify just incase we we would need it as going to the back of the queue after leaving was rather disheartening.

No, you do not need to be in a wheelchair in order to qualify for an 'Easy Access Card'. If your daughter receives Higher Rate DLA then you may have a Blue Badge, I understand that this would be sufficient. Alternatively a letter from your Doctor, dated within the last 3 months, would be just as acceptable.

I am unable to stand for long periods of time, so take a letter from my Doctor requesting that I bypass long queues, this is all that is required.

Have a fantastic trip, when are you going next?

My grandma took her blue badge and they were fine with that. They were all fantastic on the rides too, really lovely and helpful! You dont have to be in a wheelchair to get the pass, you just need to take some form of proof.

We dont have a blue badge as she doesnt qualify forthe mobility element, does the dla award cound as 'proof'???? We have dozens of docs letters, nothing stating her exact problems as to why she would need extra help but they all have her problems listed, such as reflux, asthma, milk and soya intolerance etc etc. The word reflux seems not to do her problems justice however. We have also had IBS thrown in there as well.

We use an old DLA benefits book and just point out the word "disability / disabled".

DB is autistic and receives the higher rate, but only lower rate mobility (kind of like you), and we have no problems in DLRP.

Oh sorry, misread what you said. I would think the DLA award would count, though can't be sure as presumably it's not dated within the last few months, a Doctors letter would be certainly back it up I'm sure.

Best advice is to have a doctors letter that is within 3 months that clearly states your DD's condition. Take this to City Hall and they can advise you the type of access that you can get :)

I will just take the dla award letter, it states that she qualifies for it till October next year. My dd is also currently undergoing assessment for autism too although her cons tends to disagree so it isnt in any consultant letter, luckily her Ot thinks otherwise.

I am really looking forward to the meltdowns *** she cant read the sings in french!

If I have no luck with the dla award letter it is no biggie, just a tad inconvenient. Maybe word might get round if she carries on the way things have been. Infact it could be a rather nice spectacle, it looks rather spooky when she vomits.

Good luck with getting a pass ~ like you say, you may not need it but it would be nice to have one just in case.

:grouphug: for you and your DD, hope your trip will be magical. :wizard:

I think the DLA letter would be fine, I just had a letter from my GP stating that I have MS and please could consideration be made to bypass long queues. I am not convinced the CM could understand it, as they asked me if it was just that I couldn't stand for long periods, so I am sure that if they aren't clear then they will simply as you a few questions and all will be fine.
